So itchy....

DD is now 4wo and I noticed a couple of weeks ago that I was itching quite a lot. Today I've realised that I start itching about 1 hour after I've finished feeding her, so it seems to be related. I'm going to take some Piriton to try to ease it, but I was just wondering if anyone else had found themselves coming up in a rash related to BF and if so what you did to help (apart from antihistamines)
Yes, I know I'm weird!

Oops, sorry, didn't make myself very clear - it's my back, upper chest, neck and face that are itching not boobs!! We did have thrush before, but seems to have cleared up nicely now.

Hi there,
I had itchy skin when I was pg (not BF) and the reason was dry skin, so I would guess you could have the same thing. It's really just your body using all the water available for the BM.
Have you been drinking enough?
The only thing that started helping me out a bit was that I added pure almond oil to my usual E45 lotion and just lathered on my skin.

Been drinking around 2L per day, so really not sure that it's dry skin. I've got what look a bit like hives. Not been quite so bad the past couple of days, but I'm sure it's worse first thing in the morning and late at night :-/

I'd be really surprised that it would be the breastfeeding causing that sort of rash....
Any changes in detergent, soap, perfumes....? Weird. Can you ask your doctor maybe? Sounds really irritating though!

It can still be dry skin from what you're describing but I would definately check with the doctor. It might be hormonal, so it's worth a check.

I remember reading something someone wrote ages ago about being having an allergy type reaction to breastfeeding. I googled it and there were a couple of websites mentioning it, with hives being one of the main symptoms. It doesn't sound to be particularly common, and your problem might be just skin sensitivity, but these might be worth looking at:

Now that I've said it's getting better it's got worse again this evening...
Considering how weird my body is I wouldn't be surprised if I was allergic to BF!! LOL!
