Snacks?
« on: January 29, 2011, 17:23:15 pm »
At what age did you start giving your LOs snacks and what did you offer?

DS is nearly 7 months old and I was wondering if I should start now. I started him on solids when he was 5.5 months old.

TIA.

I think DS1 was around 9mos when I started offering snacks here and there?  I can't really remember though.

DS2 is 9mos now and we usually do a snack in the afternoon.  But it's more because DS1 has one and DS2 doesn't like to be left out!  ;)  For now his BFs are still kinda like snacks, so technically he doesn't need them.  We tend to be a 'grazing' family though so I like to offer lots of little snacks throughout the day just because.  :)

DS had milk at 9.30am and 2pm once weaned.

It's only really now (12 months) that I give him fruit in the afternoon with his milk as he started to become grumpy around 4pm as he couldn't wait for his tea

Having said that, all my friends started snacking a lot earlier, varying between 6 and 9 months.

I personally would wait until you LO needs it. Unless of course you feel he needs it now.

I love to give my LO's fruit.  Just boil or put it in the microwave until soft enough for them to much but still in chunks.

bananas, avacado, apples, pears etc
