Both!!  I made a moroccan lentil stew for all of us a little while back that had whole chickpeas in it, and I just put a bunch on F's tray and he munched them back.  They tended to come out the other end whole though!  :P

Pureed works well too.  Try hummus (although be aware that hummus contains tahini which is sesame seed paste, and can be allergenic).  T was eating hummus by 8mos.

I posted a really good recipe for a puree that had chickpeas in it on the baby food recipe boards when T was little.  And I actually just made the boys bean burgers last night which also has chickpeas.  They're a great food, very nutritious.  :)

I have been, but recently he has started to let me feed him (finally! lol), so I've decided to make him some chunky puree type meals.  Just to have something in the freezer for when whatever we're having isn't great, yk?  So I guess you can say I do a bit of everything.  ;)

R is 7.5 months and had some chickpeas yesterday. I made a stew of lamb chops, sweet red and orange peppers, lots of fresh mint, ras el hanout (not very much, and it's a blend with no chillies!), beef stock, onion and chickpeas, simmered it for a couple of hours, and pureed it (she's still not completely happy with lumps so we're pureeing meaty dishes). She went absolutely mad for it : )

I'll actually be making it again, un-pureed, for the grown ups It was delicious!

I pureed a can of chickpeas with one small package of chopped spinach (after thawing and squeezing out all the liquid) then added curry and garlic and my LO loves it!

Sarah, how old is your LO?  I love that idea, but wonder if my LO is too young for it?

Maybe I am just being a whimp.  I thought you couldn't try so many spices at once at such a young age.

Well, I suppose it depends on who you talk too.  ;)  I wouldn't bat an eyelash at a little curry and garlic.  I think most spices would be fine at this age, it's probably even a good thing to give them more interesting tastes.  In many cultures they introduce lots of spices early on.  I would go for it.  :)
