Nap cutting... what to do?
« on: February 06, 2011, 01:49:08 am »
My DD is 2 1/2 and has been doing Ew since she started at school. She is half days.  Her nap time used to be 11-1/1:30 with BT at 7pm.  Now it's 12/12:30 with BT at 7:30.

I am not sure which started first, her brother was doing EW at 5am so she started to get up at this time.

I have been shortening her nap because on days when he wakes her she is making up this time at her nap.  Sometimes sleeping 2.5 and up.

Now that I have been able to get him sleeping later she is up at 5am!!!

I have been getting her up at 1.5 and somedays she is impossible to wake.  Am I doing the right thing?  Should I be making her naps even shorter?

So at the moment she's having a 1.5hr nap at 12/12.30pm, is that right?

Have you tried bringing her BT earlier?

Yes, that is correct.

Early BT we haven't changed, my DH doesn't believe in the theory. DH puts her to bed while I put LO to bed.

I can try to experiment with DH. lol!!

I would try pushing bed back to 8pm as the nap has moved back.

Thanks!  Well, my LO was up at 5:15 so this wakes her up.  On mornings when he sleeps until 5:45 she is up!  I can't win!!!

He is a screamer!  He would wake anyone up!  She is in a light sleep cycle at this time so she gets up.

Really I just am at my wits end!!  It's been like this for at least 4 months!!!  URGH!!!

I just want to give up at this point!

Don't give up! Things will get better...I appreciate how tough it is with 2 LO's that wake each other (snap!).

Do you use white noise in your LO's rooms? My LO's bedrooms are next to each other & both have white noise in them....it doesn't stop them from hearing a full-on scream down but I have found that they both sleep a lot better with it on.

Yep, got one for each!!!  Thanks for the idea.  I am sure I have exhausted every idea by now!!!

Has it worked out for you?  How do you do it?  Where are their naps since our two are around the same age?

DS is still on x 2 naps a day (long AM/short PM) & DD still has 1 x1hr nap, so at the moment it's a bit of a pain as they both nap at different times  ::)!

DD has a Groclock (but is still in a cot) & she's pretty good at lying there chatting if she wakes early (this generally doesn't wake DS (unless he's already awake!).

What is a Groclock?

I am in the same boat with both naps at different times.  It's tough to get anything done or time to myself!!!  Just knowing that it will get better helps!!

Not sure whereabouts you are (I think you can only get them in the UK/Europe).....see the link below. It's a very simple concept that when the stars are showing on the clock then it's time for sleep & when the sun comes up it's time to wake up!

We have one and it is worth its' weight in gold!! I never thought I could get our son to stay in his bedroom through his EWs, but unless he has a problem we don't hear from him until 6:15 - a lie in compared to last year!!
