The no nap dilemma
« on: February 07, 2011, 19:20:45 pm »
Hi all,
I'm really struggling with whether to just perservere with no nap, or to try somehow to re-instate a nap on some days.
My DD1 hasn't been napping for over a month now. She generally gets about 11 hours of sleep (more then the 9.5 hrs + 1 hour nap she used to get). The thing is, the past few weeks she has a NW 5 of 7 nights. "Mommy, mommy, I want something". She can't usually define what "something" is (she's very verbal). She goes back to bed but now I'm awake. She's in a crib too.
She's generally fine during the day, but sometimes wakes up tired or cranky. But she can easily make it through the day with no nap.
I just have a fear that nap days and the following no nap days will be a mess. I try for an early bedtime, but she seems to be wired to fall asleep at 8pm and wake up around 7am.
Plus she gets sick so easily right now. It's like no nap has effected her immune system. Any advice ladies?
Thanks!!
Steph

have you tried a few really early nights, like 6:30pm?  this really worked for our little ones, got them caught up.  you may not need it every night, or for very long, just while she adjusts.

You could also try adding a nap back in every few days to try & keep OT at bay. My DD is also going through a similar phase and like every other transition it can be a long road to one nap.

Is she refusing point blank to to nap when you put her down? If so, could you APOP a nap in buggy/car if necessary?
