Is my 5 month old feeding enough?
« on: February 16, 2011, 19:18:23 pm »
My daughter is almost 5 months and is on a 3.5-4 hour schedule. She feeds mostly at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 6:45-7pm depending on her bedtime and then one night feed between 4-6am. If she feeds at 3.5 then she gets one more cluster in before her bedtime feed. Is this enough? She sleeps all the way through the night until her 4-5am feed so I'm pretty sure she's not starving but I want to make sure she's eating enough. It just doesn't seem to be enough for such a little baby still! She poohs once a day and always has nicely wet diapers.

Hi there, It sounds about right to me... 4 daytime feeds and one NF (sopme mums would do a DF instead). This is pretty textbook! :)
You would know if your LO wasn't getting enough, she would be unsettled, not very alert, not reaching milestones, possibly not sleeping very well at night, not many wet nappies, not putting on weight. If that's not the case you shouldn't worry!
Is there any particular reason why you are concerned?
xx

My 5 month old feeds at 6am, 9.30/10am, 1.30/2pm, 5pm, 7pm for bed, and a DF at 10.30pm.  5 feeds a day plus the DF usually, although the 7pm one is always a quick light feed and sometimes doesn't happen at all if she's been on more of a 4 hour cycle (usually less than 4 hours on a hot day) - so not much different to you!

Ah thanks! This is helpful:

No particular reason for my concern, just wanted to doublecheck! You know how often us mothers second-guess ourselves. :)
