Well, it certainly gives you a bad association, doesn't it? TBH, I don't think attempting to feed a 5.5 mo purees he is not interested in is going to land him in therapy for food issues, so cut yourself some slack. Now, telling a 2 yo he can't get down from the table for an hour until he "cleans his plate", that is another story...
My 3.5 yo has never been really into eating. To this day, I sit her down, and try several tricks to get her to eat. I used to worry a lot about this, but by the time she was about 18 mo, I realized she would never starve herself. Now, she is a small child, who has a small appetite, but is always willing to eat everything (except meat).
Your LO is very young, younger than many people would advise even starting on solids, so you have plenty of time to experiment with what he likes. Soon, he will be putting tons of food in his mouth, and then you'll have to clean it all up
