Vegetables

Carrots, squash and sweet potato are a hit, but green beans and peas were not. I found Alyssa was very gassy.  I was going to hold off for a week or two, then try again.  Is that the right thing to do? or should I just avoid it until she is a little older? 

What other veggies can I introduce now?

Parsnip, swede, normal potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, courgette

Are you mixing the green veg with others or are you doing them alone? I was told to mix green veg so they never had them on its own, that may help.

I have been afraid to try any cruciferous (sp?) vegetable such as brocolli or cauliflower because they are so notorious for causing gas, but maybe I am wrong.

Today, I have my 6 mo peas and carrots which I had made myself (using frozen veggies then pureeing).  She seemed to take that, but not without some dramatic gagging, which I am unsure was due to the texture or taste ::)

TBH, I mix almost all veggies with a fruit, usually by serving them side by side on the spoon.  However, in the course of every meal, I give her a few spoons of the veggie itself, lest she think everything she eats is supposed to be sweet.

I did try carrots and peas and she was so gassy at night.   ???  I will try them again.  What can I mix green beans with?

sabs - at first Owen gagged when I gave him green beans. (I can't really blame him.) This morning I mixed them with a little banana (his fav) and he seemed to like it a bit better. From what I read it takes 9 times before they get used to the flavour. I would hold off for a week and try again. Beans are def gassy so if it is bothering her maybe hold off.

Havent tried green beans yet though I've got a pouch of Ellas Kitchen green beans mixed with apple & raisins for him to try.  Strange combo but if it floats your boat....

I give DS his green veggies mixed with any root veg eg mashed potato, sweet potato, carrot etc.  I mix up 2 ice cubes of root veg to 1 ice cube of greens, this doesnt seem to make him too gassy.  Also tried courgette mixed with carrot/butternut squash & thats a big hit.

You could also try making a cheese sauce to put with them - broccoli & cauliflower cheese goes down well in our house.

I should try a root veg with mashed potatoes. Sounds yum!

word of warning.....its taken quite a few tries for DS to accept mashed potato - he gagged every time I offered it. 

Not sure if this is a common reaction to mash or not, I think it must be the texture he didnt like as its quite thick.  I mixed in a bit of his formula to make it thinner & he likes it better that way.

Try it & see!!!!!
