Jet lag and time difference
« on: March 11, 2011, 00:15:38 am »
Hi,
I am currently on vacation visiting my family with my son and the 2 hour time difference and jet lag is really doing a number on him. Any routine we did have before we travelled has now been destroyed and he has taken a complete turn around. Intead of napping during the day and sleeping through the night he is rarely sleeping and eating during the day and wakes frequently at night. During the day I will be lucky if he eats 2.5 ounces every couple of hours and sometimes it takes 1 hour to feed him (lots of squirming) He will sleep for about 20 minutes every 3-4 hours. At night he is in bed at 7pm and that is only after a screaming fit for about an hour. I dream feed him at 11PM (3 ounces) and he is up every 2 hours after that eating about 2 ounces. We are only on vacation for another 5 days but I cannot handle the craziness anymore. Will he go back to his old routine once we are back home or have I ruined it by travelling at such a young age (3 months). :'(

I don't think you have ruined it but you will likely need to put in a bit of work to get things back on track when you return home.
Sounds like he is OT right now so anything (even AP) you can do to get some sleep into him I would do it. Does he have a quiet and dark place to sleep where you are?

Thank you for the advice.....I consulted a family friend who is a doctor and they recommened to keep him on the same schedule we had at home but just factor in the time difference so if I put him to bed at 7PM my time then to put him to bed at 9PM sice where we are is two hours ahead...would you agree? There is a dark place for him to sleep but it does not seem to help and he just gets over tired and sleeps less.

Yes I agree for such a short time that would be best to stick with his body clock rather than try to switch to the local time where you are for the next few days.
Good luck getting through it.
Let us know when you get home how you go settling him back in.
