5,5 month many NW...teeth? hungry?
« on: March 19, 2011, 02:50:34 am »
Hello!!
My DD is 5,5month, she is EBF and since two weeks ago she has being waking randomly at night specially around 4,5 or 6am. Before she used to resettle herself, but now she can't, sometimes she wakes and start cooing or chatting but then she rolls over and starts to cry. It's harder and harder to resettle, I think she's hungry!!! Even thought teeth are starting to grow from the inside I don't think she's in pain....she does her hunger cry.
I don`t feed her until 7am, because I don't want to create a new habit of NF. The doctor told me I could star with solids, since it looks like she needs more calories.

I've tried to extend the length of her day feeds to increase the intake during the day, but she shortens every time even more the length of the feed, she is so distracted with everything around....I know is developmental.

We are still at 3,5h EASY because of her short naps (45-55min...I've tried everything to extend with no luck) it has being impossible to transition to 4h!!! She is almost 6month she should be in 4h EASY....isn't she?

our EASY, is more a EASAE but it looks like this:
E 7am
A 7:20-9
S 9-9:45
A 9:45-10:30

E 10:30
A 10:50-12
S 12-13
A 13-14

E 14-14:20
A 14:20-15:15
S 15:15-16:00
A 16-18

E 18:30
S 19
DF 23

I don't know what else to do...if she's hungry, but she wont take longer feeds. I'll start solids (Buttermilk Squash and then pear) next week, but that will take time until established enough to give her good calories.

Any advise will be appreciated!

Thanks a lot!
Marie

Thanks! I'll try that again. The thing is if she gets mot OT she'll do shorter naps, isn't she?

Hello!! I've being extending her A time since 3 days ago and doing very quiet activity for 10-15 more minutes and she ends up with 30min naps :(....so is getting worst!!
She still wakes up very early in the morning, today she woke up at 5:30am happy and chatting. I left her 30min to see if she fell asleep again but she didn't so I came in put the paci on and stayed with her 10min until she fell asleep again for another 45min.

I'm still fighting during the day with the 45min nap monster that recently became 30min :(. I manage sometimes to do a back to back nap with 15-20min small activity between, but it doesn't work all the time.

She is sleeping goo at night, so maybe she doesn't need more sleep?....I don't know, but 5:30-6am is too early for me :(

After 45min she wakes up usually very happy and it's impossible to make her fall asleep again. I've tried leaving her on her cot and she can stay for 30min without complaining, then it's almost her feed time so she wont sleep anymore.

I've also tried w2s and it didn't really work since she only extended for 10-15min max, and that was 1 out of 3 attempts. I did it for a whole week in all the naps and I got tired of being a pensioner in her room. That was one month ago, I haven't tried it anymore, maybe I'll give it another shot.

I'll cut the A time and see what I get. Have this worked for anybody? do they really get rid of the EW? I'm kindda out of hope....I know everything is a phase, but I really hope we can have a decent wake up time soon!!

Hello! thanks for coming back!
Things are better with the NW, she only wakes at 5am but wont go back to sleep!!! So still have this EW issue.
I've tried to extend the first A time and set naps, as advised, and it doesn't make a difference with the EW. I also pushed the BT 30min later and didn't work either :(

Naps are the same 45min, although I did today for the first nap w2s and it worked! She slept for 1h15 (still short but better than 45m!) I had stopped doing w2s before because it wasn't working, but today it worked...I'll keep doing it to see if I can get more sleep out of her...

I still don't know how to overcome the EW. If I push too much the first A time I get 30min OT nap...

Just when I say that things are going well with the NW....here we go another night of many NW (1, 2 , 3 , 4:30 and 6), I'm exhausted!! What I don't get is that she wakes up cooing and chatting and she can stay like that for long, then she rolls over and when tired she starts crying, that's when I come in and resettle.
Could it be the teeth? but she doesn't seem to be in pain....do the manifest it with pain? cry?
I'll try tonight to give her some meds after the DF at (11pm) and see what happens.....

((ouff...so tired))

Hello,
Today our EASY looked like this:

NW: 1, 2, 3, 4:30 and 6 (I managed to resettle until 7:30)
E 7:40
A 8-9:50
S 9:20-11:40 (extended with w2s)

E 11:45 (when she sleeps well we can do 4h)
Solids 12:45 (pears)
A 12-2
S 2-2:30 (w2s didn't work)
A 2:30-3:15

E 3:15
A 3:30-5:15
S 5:15-6
Bath 6:15 (she was very tired, couldn't extend BT)

E 6:30
S 6:45 (she cried a lot I think she was very OT)
Planning to give a DF at 10:30

Today the w2s worked only once, the other two naps were very short. But yesterday it worked pretty well, actually yesterday was the best nap day in long time....but still got many NW.....so I don't get it!

Thanks again
Marie

Thanks! I'll try some meds tonight since she keeps waking up at night. The thing that intrigues me is that if it was pain then she would cry.....don't she?

If she takes a 1h30 nap as it should be, we can make it to the 4h easy....

I'll keep the w2s. Today it only worked for the am nap :(

Thanks!
Marie
