Putting off BGB??
« on: March 19, 2011, 21:25:12 pm »
Was just wondering if my DD is the only nearly 3 yr old not in a BGB yet?

Everyone I know who has similar aged LO's all seem to be in BBB/BGB's! So it's now kinda on my mind a bit more now.

DD is in a cot-bed, we just haven't taken the sides off yet....she's in a Gro-bag & (touch wood) she's never tried escaping. She already has a Gro-clock so she understands when it's time to go to bed/ wake-up etc.

I've been thinking of transitioning her in the Summer but am I just putting it off? Is it harder to do it the older they get??

I would think it might be easier...we did it at 2.5 with Masyn because she wasn't in a bag and could get out, so risk of falling.  But, she couldn't open her bedroom door then, so we emptied the room of everything but the bed, so she couldn't get out anyways!

I think alot depends on personality & sleep habits too, Spencer went to a BGB at 16 months (crib recall, we took the side off of it) and it was super easy because she doesn't move in her sleep and sleeps in the dark.  She still doesn't realize she can get out of her bed until I turn the light on!

I would have kept them both in longer if I could have, but for us it wasn't really a big deal.

Ethan's still in a cot (cot bed as well) and he's nearly 3.5.  He sleeps so well in it that until he starts climbing out or it comes to an age that we feel it's time, he'll be staying in it.  A few of my friends have 2.5 year olds who are currently waking them up couple hours of the night so the longer the better I'd say.  Having said that, Amy was in a BGB at 18 months old and never tried to get out so it does depend on the child.  How do you think she'll get on?

Thanks ladies!  :-*

DH's view is 'If it 'aint broke don't try to fix it..' & I know he has a point...

Ideally I want to move DS into DD's cot-bed & buy her a new bed...her birthday's in June so was thinking of doing it all then.

Karen, I'm not sure how she'd adjust & I think I'm probably worrying about the worst case scenario...not going down at BT/ not napping & getting up during the night &/or getting out of bed early in the AM, lol!! She has generally been a pretty good sleeper (although she's a spirited little madam!).....but I do think once she realises she can get out of bed she'll think that's great & will see it as a fun game!

DS1 stayed in a crib until 3.25 years.  The transition was a breeze.  We tried around age 2 and it was a nightmare, so we went back and I'm so glad that we didn't push it. :)

I would be keeping H in his until he was about 3 but I need his cot and also don't fancy making the transition with a 3/4 month old so we are doing it in about 3 weeks. I think your plan sounds good. x

We did the transition at almost 4 and it worked like a charm.
