Is WIWO right method for this situation
« on: March 21, 2011, 08:23:30 am »
Hi. We have been having NW for the last two months with DS since going in big bed. We have made progress in that he no longer spends several hours during the night getting in and out of bed. However he still wakes once or twice and gets out of bed. We walk him straight back to bed and he settles fairly quickly. I think the problem is that for the last 6 months (started before big bed) he will not go to sleep without one of us in the room and then we have to sneak. I think that when he wakes in the night he is scared because we are not there. I guess we need to try and leave theropmbegore he falls asleep at bedtime but he just gets really upset and we want him to continue enjoying bed. Any ideas?

Hi

How old is your LO?

Could you post your current routine?

Have you tried putting a child gate on his door so he can't get out of his room? Also a Gro-clock or lights on a timer are great for helping LO's to understand time to go to bed/wake up.

If you feel he's dependent on you being in his room for him to go to sleep then either GW or WI/WO might be appropriate (see link below FYI):

What do you think?

Thanks for reply. Routine depends on the day but generally like this:
Wake 6-630am
7am breakfast
Activity until 1130/12
Nap 12 for sometimes upto 1.5 hours
Activity
Snack 230pm
Activity
Tea 430pm
Bath and bed for 730pm

We did consider gate bit would rather nit. We have been doing GW fir ages now snd ust can't get out his room until he is asleep. He tends to wake at 11

Sorry didn't finish last post and words all over the place!! Was just finishing by saying he wakes anytime but often 10pm and 3am. When he wakes he comes into our room. DH gets up and walks him back to bed as I am usually feefing DD who is only 8 weeks.

How old is he?

I think a Gro-clock or something similar would help, see below link FYI:
