Don't know if I should drop a bottle
« on: March 25, 2011, 20:53:33 pm »
I am not sure if I should drop Alyssa's late pm bottle as she is only drinking 3ozs, but she still has one early morning feed which I plan to wean.
Solids are offered 40min-1hr after milk.

Here are her milk feeds:
7am 5ozs
12pm 5-6ozs
3pm 3ozs
7pm 7-8ozs
4-5am 4ozs

I would leave it until you wean the early am feed at least, although 4 bottles a day until she is about 9/10 months is really what she should be having (although some drop to 3 a bit earleir).

thanks. I have reduced that early morning bottle from 6os to 4ozs. It seems she will only go back to sleep with that bottle. I tried to let her self settle this morning and she kept waking up every 20min. So at 6am I gave in and gave her milk.

I am also right on the bubble with a 6.5 mo currently taking 5 milk feeds, except for two of them are both before 10 am, so I am really close to combining them into one.  Thing is, one day, she will take very little of Bottle #2, and other days, she will take all of it (5 oz).  Unless something changes, I am going to eliminate 1 at about 7 months, and go down to 3 at about 9 months.  It sure would be nice to have less bottles though :)

Makes sense. Not sure if i should try moving her cereal earlier and noon bottle before nap, then lunch after nap and bottle later on.

I was just going to post about this. O hasn't been interested in his afternoon bottle lately and I am not sure if this is the one I should drop first or the mid morning bottle or none? What are you planning on doing?

I haven't dropped it yet. I am going to give it another few weeks and see what she does. I moved her lunch a little earlier and moved the pm bottle right before nap.

I don't know about you guys, but I try and look for a pattern of the same behavior for at least 3-4 days.  So, when she wants very little of a certain bottle one day, but eats it all the next, then I am hesitant to drop anything.  I also hate to rock the boat for any reason, because right now, she is super healthy and happy, sleeping pretty well etc.

Don't want to mess with a good thing, right?

k thanks. O has a cold so I won't be doing anything until he is better but he does seem to be drinking less these days and wanting more food. I still haven't introduced meat so I am going to wait probably another couple of weeks, but was just wondering what others were doing. When you do drop a bottle though., which one first? midam or midpm?? I can't remember.

I looked over DD1's notes and she dropped her midam first.  I noted that it was a struggle for her to drink.
