How to calculate an extended nap?
« on: March 31, 2011, 01:06:53 am »
Hi all

I have recently been battling some major OT from my little one but in the process have discovered that I CAN resettle her back to sleep (woohoo!) (shh/pat just made her stare at me like I was crazy and she wasn't crying so I couldn't do PU/PD), by just placing my hand on her legs or chest and staying with her until she's back asleep.

Anyways, I just wanted some thoughts on how to calculate a nap if it's broken up with resettling time.

For instance today's 1st nap was 1hr and 10mins soild sleep then it took about 15 mins for her to fall back asleep and she slept for another 15 mins, half cried/woke for another 10 mins and then slept again for another 23 mins.

Do I just add up all the sleep time and consider that a nap of about 1hr and 50 mins in total and have a A time on the longer side or should it not be considered a great nap b/c it was so broken up and reduce my A time accordingly.

Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated! ;D

I'd count A time from the final time she woke up from the nap.  If you think she's getting bit OT then reduce the A time slighty.

Thanks.

After two days of this it seems that if I resettle her quickly (under 10 mins) then I can count it all as one nap, but yesterday was too broken up and I kept her up too long and she got a bit OT.
Oops.
Lesson learned.
