Am I doing something wrong? (7 month old)
« on: April 15, 2011, 03:00:17 am »
Hi
My just turned 7 month old DD is still waking in the evenings. I'm not sure if it's developmental ( 2 nights ago she was trying to turn herself around 180 degrees ALL NIGHT LONG in her sleep and then would cry when she wound up sideways with her head hitting the sides), teething (already has 2) or our EASY. I feel like she's gone through so much stuff in the past month (had her shots, had a fever for a few days, learned to roll, etc) that I don't know what's what anymore.
It's seems like when I keep A times on the shorter side, she wakes at the 30 min mark and then I go in to extend. When I extend A times, I at least get one good nap but then nighttime is a bust...or maybe it's developmental too...??!! Pfft. ::)

Anyways, here's today's EASY
Wake 6:30am
Eat-BF 6:45
Eat-Solids 7:30
S-9:20-10:45
Eat-BF-11:00
E-Solids 12
S-1:32-2:13-left her to see if she could settle herself, she didn't, Went in at 2:20 and helped extend but it was a very fitful 25 mins until 2:46. I guess she was OT here but I thought I was paying attention to her cues! ::)
E-BF-3:00
S-4:45-5:09
Bath 6:21
Eat-BF-6:48 until 7:19 when I put her down for the night, but she was dozing as she nursed but was put in the crib awake.

DF will be around 10:45-11 ish.

She has then cried a couple of times already. A few times she settled herself but the last time I went in  to help her. (Edit-it's now 10:30 and she has cried every 10-15 mins, so she's really not even settling. I just gave her some Tylenol to see if that helps anything).

A couple of questions-I'm trying to extend her A times but b/c I never  get long naps consistently out of her (1st was good, 2nd sucked), we're not ready to drop the catnap so how long do ppl usually keep their LOs up after the cat nap?

Can waking at the 30 min mark of a nap ever indicate UT?

Is it normal for a baby to wake up atfer bedtime and cry for a few minutes and then go back to bed or is that a clue that something is off?

Can I give her an extra long time out in 2 years for all the grief she's caused me??? ;)

TIA

((HUGS))) Those NWs do seem OT related, but your routine isn't bad.  The A time after a cat nap varies.  I *think* at this age, my LO was doing the same A after a cat nap.  The problem that a lot of moms run into at this point is that the cat nap is effecting the night, but their LO isn't ready to drop it. Some just drop it and opt for the early bedtime.

Any chance she is teething?  Have you tried medicating before naps or bedtime?

Hi there

It was weird...after I gave the tylenol she was out...like instantly. I know it doesn't work that fast, but she slept for 45 mins and then woke around the time that I was going to DF. My DH settled her and then gave her a bottle. She then made little cries at 12, 1 and 2 ish ( we didn't go in for those, but it's still weird for her to make any cries after the DF) and slept until 7 (which is sleeping in for her).

Her left cheek is bright red this morning, but it's been that way on and off for months. I kinda gave up that she was * actually* teething  cause it seem to go on forever.

If I could get 2 good naps out of her, then I think I would be able to drop the catnap, but naps are so hit and miss with her. I'll give Tylenol again today before naps and see how it goes.

We get those cries at night with pain.  How about trying ibuprofin at night?  It last longer and works better for pain.

I hear you with the short naps.  We still opted for an early bed at this point.  But we were also getting EWs, so we had nothing to lose.

Yeah, I've heard that about Advil (Ibuprofin). I'll try it tonight. I just tried inspecting her mouth and I can't see anything other than her front top teeth look like their pushing forward, like lumps under the skin. Dunno, is that what teething looks like?

Yes, the gums will appear swollen.  FWIW, those top 2 were killer for my LO.

FYI-my DD has had a fever for 2 days now. So I guess she was getting sick, again. :( Both Tylenol and Advil really haven't helped her. Last night was awful, she was so uncomfortable. Cried most of the night.
I'm pretty sure she's teething on top of having a flu/fever.
I finally took her in the recliner chair with me and with me and we both slept for a few hours. Never had to do that before. Poor kid.

Aww honey, do go and get her ears checked to make sure it's not an ear infection.  Those are really painful.

Just as a note, two things....my DD who is 11.5 months old reverts back to 2.5 hour A times in the morning when she is teething, it gets really really short...and she sleeps well from that.

When they are teething the bottom ones they can be really hard to see until they are just under the surface.

oh and yeah the top front teeth and canines are aweful for "bad" teethers!

oh that's three things

I second Lizzie's advice.  I would get her ears checked.  Ear infections are very painful and can cause fevers.

Hugs.  I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks...as I just posted on my other post...after one of the worst nights of my life, just found out she has a urinary tract infection and I'm pretty sure its effected her kidneys to some extent. We have to get an ultrasound done in the next 2 weeks while she's on antibiotics.
At least now though, I know what's been bothering her !

Thanks for everyone's help!
