stopping night feed?????
« on: April 20, 2011, 11:37:52 am »
Can you approach stopping night feeds the same way you stop dreamfeed? or is pick up put down only method? my little girl is just over 6 months wakes up randomly and I feed her because I'm exhausted.  She goes to sleep with out any props and had no problem napping etc.

I guess it depends on why she's waking. If it's a routine issue you might be able to stop the NWs without having to tackle the NF which would be nice. Def worth posting your routines for the experts (not me :P) to see.

Or is there any chance she is genuinely hungry? That was def partly the problem with my LO when I managed to go from 2-3 to 1 or no NFs quite recently.

However I am the same as you, i tend to feed due to pure exhaustion and a quick fix :-\

My DD was waking up for a night feed around 2-4am.  I didn't think she was hungry and was using it as a prop to go back to sleep.  She too falls asleep on her own.  I kid you not, as soon as we stopped the night feed, she stopped waking (although gets up early at about 6am).  I did a lot of shush/pat for about an hour one night and was expecting the same the next night but didn't have to do it.  This was only 3 weeks ago though and she was 9 months old...but I think I probably could have done it sooner.

If only I can get the courage to do it.  The most I have tried to settle is one hour.

I hear you!  My DS was a TERRIBLE sleeper from day 1 and he just started sleeping through about 6 months ago.  Anyway, I think I was used to being up all night with him that I just told myself one night....I don't care how long it takes I'm doing this.  It is torture for us isn't it :P  I was truly shocked when it only took one night.
