To feed or not to feed ?
« on: April 24, 2011, 10:06:01 am »
DD is 14 weeks old and is a fairly good sleeper ( comparing to ds). My question is around early waking. DD goes to sleep at around 7pm wakes anywhere from 12.30 - 2.30 and settles after food. Then she wakes between 4.30 - 5.30am. I was told by a bw follower and friend that she shouldn't be fed at this time and I should just leave her until she cries out which apparently I should be aiming for 6am. My toddler wakes at 5ish and I am normally in with her so I don't think he is waking her. Its normally a good 3-4 hours after her last feed so I would assume it is for food? It's after that it's trouble! She is awake and ready to go but she is definitely tired and within 30 mins she almost always is cranky and tired!!

Would you leave her at that last waking and hope she made it to 6?  Is it an EW? And on the same subject of sleep could the length of her day be contributing (maybe get her to bed at 6pm if she is waking at 5am?)

Many thanks

Hi, I also have a 14 wk old daughter. Currently she goes to bed at 7, has a DF at 10.30, and will wake anywhere between 3.30 and 5 for a feed and I get her up at 7am. At the 3-5 feed she will take 3-5 oz. The 7am feed is only maybe 2 oz and then maybe 3-4 for the rest. We are currently trying to extend her awake time during the day and hopefully get her to 4 hr feeds soon.
The last 2 nights when she wakes DH has been giving her cooled boiled water and getting her back to sleep. This is hopefully gonna help her sleep through the night as she's not getting a proper feed.  We did this with our 4 yr old DD and it worked, so wrer hoping it will do the same.
Do you do a DF?
Whats the rest of your day like? (Feeds, sleep)
I've started putting DD up in her cot for her naps, rather than in the moses basket in the living room, She definately sleeps better and longer.
