I can't do this! DD just won't eat
« on: April 26, 2011, 06:31:53 am »

I am a little desperate to resolve this! DD is 15 weeks old, she used to be a happy baby and I guess she still is sometimes. She is on the 10 th percentile for weight and always has been and my paed seemed confident that she was just petite as she is still following the same line but growing. Here is the problem when she feeds during the day she will maybe eat for 3 mins on one side and less on the left. I had heard that second babies are more efficient but I am not sure if they are that efficient! She has just started waking 3 hourly at night and last night she had a great feed each time. I have an active toddler that won't sleep during the day much these days so waking so often in the night is killing me.

I have tried feeding her in her room, blinds closed etc once she wakes and she may go for 5 mins. I have covered her etc. When ds is at kindy she is no different.

I have been trying a bottle since she was 6 weeks but so far not happening. I have tried expressed milk and tried multiple bottles and formulas.

So, does anyone have any tips on how I can improve the feeding and get more calories in to her?

Thankyou.

When did this unsettledness/ NWs start? I'm thinking that maybe you're LO is going through the 4 month GS. It's a pretty big one and a lot of mums doubt their supply at this stage because it can be so demanding (it's also why in the past doctors wrongly thought that it was a sign that the baby needed to start solids).
Another thing that I'm thinking is the routine: are you on a 3, 3.5 or 4hr EASY? Could you post us your routine?

I was going to mention the 4 month GS too!

My DD2 has never feed for more than 5 minutes since she was a month old.  She is really efficient.  At time she has unlatched and the milk has come pouring out so I know she is getting plenty.

Is your LO content after the 3 minute feeds?  How long is she lasting to the next feed? Generally if they are happy and content then they are getting enough.
