Eliminating night wakes - 7 month old
« on: May 04, 2011, 01:28:27 am »
I've had a ton of success with PU/PD for eliminating frequent night wakings. He used to be up at around 11pm, 1am, 3am & 6am most nights and I used to nurse him 2-3 times per night. After less than a week of PU/PD, I have him down to a feed around 11pm then sleeping until 7:30am. The 11pm isn't a dreamfeed, as he never responded well to that (I found it would increase his wakings).

Anyway, so I'm thinking of eliminating the 11pm feed. How would I go about this? I don't want him to be hungry.

BTW- he is breastfed.

How are solids going?  Is he taking a full feed at 11?  He is waking for it right?

What is the rest of your routine like?  Can you post it in EAS format?

Yes, he's on a good EASY and follows it well most days

E nurse 7am, solids 8:30
S 9:00-10:30
E nurse 11am
S 1pm-2:30
E 2:30
S 5-5:30
E 5:30
Solids 6:00
E nurse 7:00
Bath bed sleep by 7:45

Yes, he wakes for the feed anytime between 10:30-1, but usually around 11. I've tried PUPD for this wake but he always wakes again shortly after so I figure he's hungry.

Yes, he seems to take a full feed.

Solids are going well I think. It's only been a few weeks and he already eats 2 meals of approx 3-4 oz each.

Your EASY looks like it could use adjusting. The A time for 7 months is about 2.75 to 3 hours. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=64158.msg476652#msg476652  I would stretch the first morning A by 15 minutes or so and also the 2nd A.  The last A before bed is too long, probably causing an OT NW at 10:30.  Your last A is over 5 hours, which is what LOs do on 1 nap.

What do you think?

Sorry! I forgot to put the catnap in. There's an 30 min S at 5-5:30!

Also, we just adjusted from 2 hrs of A. He's very ready for naps at 2.5 hrs of A (especially the first nap) and goes down beautifully on his own. But i often have to wake him from his 2nd nap & catnap.

I would try to add more A time throughout the day though.  You can get NWs from not enough A time during the day.

Other than that, I would say your LO still needs his NF then.  It is not uncommon for Bf LOs to need a NF at this age. http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=98183.0
