WHY does he do this??
« on: May 12, 2011, 14:43:33 pm »
I wasnt sure where to put this..

When DS is napping or sitting in his chair hanging out and starts to fuss, I usually try to calm him with out picking him up. But 2 or 3 times now in the last week, when I do pick him up, he starts WAILING hard core. He isn't asleep, unless he sleeps with his eyes wide open. And I pick him up carefully and slowly.

Sorry, I'm sure exactly what you're asking!  Is this when he's down for a nap or just in general?

I'm not really sure tbh!  Hopefully someone else will come along with some ideas!

Thanks, it's just like he is startled. But he sees me coming and is fussy so I assume he wants picked up... It's only happened a few times but it's weird.

Maybe its his mantra cry and he's trying to go to sleep? Sometimes if my DS wakes in the middle of a nap and he's still tired and he starts to fuss, if I pick him up he gets really angry, which I assume means he didn't want me to pick him up. But its hard for me to tell the difference between his mantra cry and his 'come get me now mommy!' cry so I get it wrong a lot.

Hi.  My 6 month old much prefers to settle in his cot or buggy.  If I pick him up when he's tired and fussing he starts crying and gets upset.  If I comfort him in the cot with some shushing and a lullaby he will usually drift off.  This started happening after I used PU/PD to improve his sleeping habits - I guess it's a good thing he doesn't want to fall asleep in my arms anymore!
