Yesterday and today were both horrible.  He napped less than 1 1/2 hours ALL day total.  Now he is barely making it past 20 mnutes.  He had two 21 minute naps today and one 35 minute and I was holding him for two of those three naps so that is not making a difference.  I've tried to extend his naps many times and it never works.  Once he is UP, he is UP.  I tried the wake to sleep a couple times and all he did was wake, no going back to sleep.  He doesn't take a pacifier at ALL, he spits it right out.  He is TOUGH.

His med was just increased at his 4 mos appt.  He is on Prevacid and the dosage he is on is supposed to be good until 20 pounds and he is only 16 so it's not like he is even close to going up.  I watched him close today though and I DID see some fluxing here and there so I am going to call his GI dr tomorrow and see if there is a different med we can try as maybe this one just isn't cutting it. :(  Zantac didn't work either so I think the only thing left is Prilosec.  Edited to add - if it WAS his reflux, wouldn't this be affecting his night sleep as well?  He sleeps all night with just one wakeup to eat.

We are just a huge honking disaster over here.  He is currently rolling around "talking" in his crib instead of sleeping even though he was falling asleep eating his night time bottle.  Sigh..  He is exhausted but won't give in.  :(

LOL!  Alexandra is giving Lucas a run for his money today :)  I had to APOP all of her naps and bedtime today - something I haven't done in over a month.  It was brutal but I am hoping she is down for the night!

Hope Lucas gave you a bit of respite today!  Bring on tomorrow!

Edited to add - if it WAS his reflux, wouldn't this be affecting his night sleep as well?  He sleeps all night with just one wakeup to eat.
In short, no.   Some LOs with reflux sleep well at night and suffer really badly during the day.   If you have noticed his fluxing I would say you can assume it is bothering him and sleep training when reflux is an issue is never going to be successful.    You've mentioned that he can be upset settling for naps and the crying and upset can really affect reflux and this is often why daytimes are awful but nights ok.  They are often just so exhausted by bedtime that they sleep and because there is no crying/up an downs etc the reflux stays at bay and they can sleep.

I'll try and get some more eyes for you on the reflux front.

On the naps front you may have to accept for the meantime you have a short napper on your hands and just go with it.  For me I tried to extend for 10-15 minutes but I went in the second i heard her stir (often before) and resettled wit ssh-pat.  IF she didn't go back over I got her up and went on with my day.

20 minute naps are a sign of OT...what A time are you doing?  Have you tried HTTJ?

I am sure there is a link to short napping info and how to fit it into your day but I can't find it but will keep looking.

So many {{{hugs}}}

I did try the shh pat last week a couple times but no success but I will keep trying.  We have been doing 2 hours morning A time and then seeing what that nap is.  Last week using 2 hr A time got me long naps 3 days but 30 min or less the others.  It's totally random!  Then 2ish hours the rest of the day depending on his mood.  This 20 minute thing is just over the last two days, before that he was usually hitting 30 minutes at least.  And now I think the daytime OT might be affecting his night sleep.  Yesterday he was awake by 6:45 and today 6:25 which means he didn't even hit 11 hours last night.  Sigh.

EDITED TO ADD - Just to show you how random it is I laid him down at 1hr50min today after 5 min of rocking, he fell asleep at 2 hours exactly and he's been down an hour and still going.  No consistency at all!  LOL

Sorry to have been MIA these past couple of days...it was a holiday weekend here in the States, and we were with family.

The 3-6 month range was hard for us, too.  I agree with Shiv, though, to get the reflux checked out first (which it sounds like is already your plan).

I spoke with the GI doctor today.  She won't prescribe a different med because if not sleeping is his only symptom she doesn't think it is the reflux.  They would want to go a scope test to see just how bad he is refluxing.  Plus he is almost 6 mos and she said it starts to get better after 6 mos.  I can't decide if I want to put him through the torture of the test if it is gonna start getting better soon so I am torn.  But go figure, he had awesome naps today!  Got up at 6:30, napped 8:25 to 10:20 and then 12:30 to 3:30!!!  I tried for a catnap at 5 but I kinda knew that wasn't gonna happen.  I laid him down at 6:30 and he fell asleep at 7 so he was up 3 1/2 before bed but didn't fuss too much going to sleep.  Dear god I hope this is a new trend! LOL

WOOHOO!!!  Maybe he just needed to have a few rough days while he sorted out his new A times.. my DD is a mess when she needs a change... short naps, NW, the whole deal!

You might be on to something!!!

For what it's worth... DD has to be up for at least 3 1/2 hours or bedtime will be a fight... she has been like that for over a month ;)  I generally push her to 4 hours to ensure that she will STTN ;)

Just curious, what age did your DD start STTN?  Lucas still wakes up between 1-2 for a bottle and he drinks like 7 oz so I know he IS hungry and not just waking but I am thinking if we keep feeding him at night he will never eat enough during the day to skip the night feeding.  LOL

4 1/2 months :)  I noticed that she was becoming a snacker in the morning with her first feed and discovered that she was likely filling up overnight and then not needing the feed in the morning.  I started to night wean her by reducing the amount I would give her at her NW and slowly she added it to the morning feed... she only protested once when she was down to about 3 ozs at night ;)   I reduced the night feed by one oz every couple of days... if she protested, I would give an extra day or two to adjust, then continue with reducing the feed.  Once we were down to 3 ozs... she stopped waking up on her own... guess it wasn't worth it anymore ;)

Hi  :)

I have read the more recent posts on your thread.

I did see that you mentioned that you can see the refluxing so there is on other symptom there.  Any other symptoms from this list?

Is she on solids yet?  If so what foods have you introduced?  Just thinking aloud for food issues?

How is her poop? any mucus? Loose, frequency or constipation?

On the non-medical side I put alot of sleep problems down to needing an increase in A times and cat naps that need to go. Just some food for thought.
