Help! I'm very confused!
« on: May 25, 2011, 16:00:26 pm »
My 8 week old has been on easy for a few weeks and we were doing wonderful. However, we have had a very hard week. Monday she refused to take her two afternoon naps, but kept falling sleep during her fed. That nite she woke up several times during the nite hungry (we were up to a point where she woke up only once between 3 and 4), that made me think she was ready for more food during the day. So i increased her bottles to 5oz (she was on 4). Tuesday she did eat the 5oz bottles but it took a long time to feed her because she kept falling sleep! I figured she was going through a grow spurt. But i was sure that because she eate more during the day she would go back to sleeping more at nite, but nope, she fussed all nite long! And this morning, she 's giving me all the sings that she's hungry, but turns her face away every time i tryto giveher her bottle... We battle for about an hour with her feed until she finally fell sleep, and she probably had only 1.5 maybe 2oz. Her second feed of the day, she ate close to 4oz and feel sleep again!! I am very nervous that she's going to give me an even worse nite tonite! What's going on?? I don't know what to do... HELP!!

That is a strange one!  Just like the rest of us, babies do have days that they just aren't as hungry as others.  Could you post your EASY, it almost sounds like it might be an OT situation.  My DD will not eat when OT either... or it could be overstimulation as well... what sorts of things do you do for your A time?

Hugs!  We have all been there :)

On a normal day, she gets up at 7, eats her bottle then we talk for a little bit and then she keeps me company while i have breakfast, she naps from 8:30 to 10, when i usually wake have to wake her up. We do this every 3 hours, at 10, 1, 4 and 7. Usually for her A she talks with me, if it's a nice day we may go for a walk (only once a day), she migth lay on the floor mat for a little looking at her toys... After her last feed, we have story time, bath and bed time close to 8:30. She was waking up only once at nite between 3 and 4 for a feed and then right back to bed... Today she woke up at 5:30 and fussed for and hour when i finally gave in and gave her her bottle at 6:30, then we had the issues that i mentioned before... The rest of the day today she did a little better with her feeds, but she still was very sleepy... She's in bed now so we'll see how the nite goes... What do u think?? Could she be going through a growth spurt??

Could be a growth spurt, but that is generally around 6 weeks and again at 3 months...

What other nap times does she have right now?  How long will she sleep for that morning nap if you leave her?  I am generally a firm "don't wake a sleeping baby" advocate... unless you are trying to preserve a bedtime ;)

have you tried a faster teat/nipple? I had to swap when ds kept falling asleep during feeds after only taking a small amount of milk

Definitly try a faster teat, that can really help. I also wonder if your A times are a bit long - the normal A time for an 8 week old is about 1hr 15 min and the first A time of the day is often the shortest. Don't forget that A time includes feeds and changing, it's awake time not jus activity time so eyes open to eyes shut time.

How have things been today?

She had a better day today, and she actually went back to getting up only once at nite to eat and then back to bed! Even though she's been better, we still had a little bit of trouble with her feeds... A couple of times she didn't finish her bottle... Switching to a fastet flow nipple makes a lot of sense though! I will definitely will try that. I'll let u know how she does tonigth
