Why has AM nap gotten short again?
« on: May 30, 2011, 14:36:36 pm »
DS is 6 months old and we struggled with 45 minute naps for a few months.  However, for the last 6 weeks or so, he has had a great AM nap of 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours.  I have been working to stretch his A time and he is at about 2 hours 15/20 minutes.  In the last few days, his AM naps have gone downhill to 1 hour or, just now, 45 minutes.  This nap used to be the one I could count on, even if he was OT.  What is causing this?  Our day is usually like this:

7:10 - up and bottle
8:15 - solids
9:30 - nap

11/11:15 - up and bottle
1:30 (or so) - nap

2:45 - up
3:15 bottle
4:45/5:15 - catnap

5:45 - up
6:00 - solids
7:15 - bottle, bath
7:30 - bed

Late 5 months/early 6 months 2.25-2.5 hours
6.5 - 7 months 2.75-3 hours. Some are getting more.

I think you need to push out that A time again.  At 6 months there is a big developmental leap and they often are able to manage much more A time.  You are also getting to the stage where it is nearly time to drop the CN and move to 2 naps but you'll need to get the A times upped a bit more.  I'd tried 2.30 for 3/4 days and see does that lengthen out the nap for you.

Thanks.  I was sort of thinking the same thing.  I am so ready to be done with the CN but when the other naps are on the short side we still need it!  I will update in a couple of days with progress report...

I get you on the CN thing!  It is so much easier when they are on 2 solid naps.

I'd up the A time to 2.30 and see how you go and then add another 10/15 minutes if you feel he needs it.  Realistically LOs need to manage 3 hours A time to get rid of that pesky CN!  But you aren't too far away from that xx
