Transition from 3 to 4 hour EASY with no DF
« on: June 02, 2011, 20:16:15 pm »
Hi I have posted this before but just wondered if anyone had any thoughts! I could never get the DF to work, but I feed LO every 3 hours
so 7am, 10am, 1pm, 4pm and 6.30/7pm he can take anywhere between 6-8oz

However lately I have been thinking about the transition to 3.5 hours then 4 hours (LO is 14.5 weeks) However this would mean dropping a feed to 4 bottles a day!

Do you think this would mean he would start waking in the night hungry or should I start the DF again or should I stay on the 3 hour easy until weaning?

Thanks in advance x

Popping this over to bottle feeding for you

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

LO should be fine... the transitions generally coincide with a baby's change in appetite.  I moved DD from a 3 to 4 hr EASY with only a day or two on the 3.5 hr version.  I knew it was time when she actually had less interest in eating so often and would only eat a small amount at a time... she just wasn't hungry yet!  And no, she didn't start NW... and we have never done a DF or cluster fed :)

How are his A times at the moment? You don't have to rush to switch to a 3.5/4 hour EASY, especially if he isn't having a DF or a nightfeed. My two didn't have a DF, but they had a nightfeed until they were well established on solids. If he is still hungry at 3 hours and taking his normal size bottles then why not wait a few weeks and see how things are going then?

Thanks for your replies, his A times arent great and he also doesnt nap great either! He STTN from 7 til 7 so when he wakes he is hungry and eats 7 or 8oz, I have therefore been pushing his first feed back to 3.5 hours and then the rest are at 3 hours! He then still eays between 6-8oz each bottle and isnt sick very often so I know he isnt over eating! I was thinking of staying on a 3 hour EASY until, his naps are most established (we are working on these) and also his A time can get longer.

Thanks for your replies x

Sounds like a good plan... always best to change things gradually :)
