Does this sound like pain?
« on: June 05, 2011, 15:16:52 pm »
We are very close to one nap and am wondering if this is pain or OT related.  Over the last week, I hear Alyssa cry out at night. I don't know if she is awake or asleep. She will fuss/cry for a few minutes then go back to sleep for another hour and then cry out again. This normally happens at around 4:30am.  We battled EWs, got that under control with a little tweak but now they are creeping back.  Trying to tweak again as she is very close to one nap but can't yet handle 5hours of A time or manage a nice long nap.  ATM we are doing long am/short pm nap. pm nap is about 20mins now followed by a 3hr A.  Yesterday, she was up at 6am, took her out at 6:30am. Napped at 10:45-12:30pm and napped again at 4:30pm-4:50pm. She was asleep by 8pm.

Can't say for sure but you just reminded me of my dd when she was teething, she would cry out or sometimes have a full on sad cry but when I'd go in there she would be fast asleep, I found giving some meds mixed with a little bit of milk in a bottle while she was sleeping worked, you could try that and if the cries stop you know it is teething.

BTW we did the same as you, long AM nap and a 20 min nap late afternoon but our dd would only have 2-2˝hrs Atime after that nap. Do you wake her from the catnap? If so maybe let her have another 5-10 mins if she is going to do a 3hr A time or put her to bed a bit earlier, the EWs dissappeared when we did this  :)

thanks.
I do wake her from her CN.  I will try an earlier bt. She woke up at 5:45am but got her down until 6:10am. Thinking that pm nap will be 30min today.

Sounds very similar to my ds when he is teething, so could well be pain. Do you think it might be a bit of OT? 9mo is young to be close to 1 nap

I was thinking that it could be a bit of OT as well.  That's a long day from 6am - 8pm with only a single nap.  I honestly don't think that naps under 30 minutes do much to take the edge off... I find they make DD more tired overall.

She will be 10months on the 16th and yes I agree she is young to be close to one nap. She has always been on the higher end of A times-fights naps. Days were normally 13hours but since she is waking up earlier again, days are getting longer. I am trying to get back to those days.  Nights seem to be averaging 10.5hrs-11hrs, but now they are 10-10.5hrs.

And the battle continues, hey?!  We are averaging 10 hours a night here as well.
