WWYD about missed feeds
« on: June 08, 2011, 11:57:52 am »
R is 8 months.  In a few weeks (she'll be a few days short of 9 months) I am going to a concert (Bon Jovi...wooo!!) and will be away from about 3pm to probably after midnight.  I'll feed her when she gets up, 11am ish and then before I go.  Question is...do you think she would be ok without a milkfeed for the rest of the day and ok with just solids and i'll feed her when I get home (like a DF).  I know at 9 months M would have had only 3 feeds some days but don't want her to be unsettled without it.  She has never had a bottle and I really can't face the thought of all the pumping and getting her used to the bottles for the sake of one afternoon and evening but obviously I would if I had too.  She is unlikely going to need to take a bottle again so just don't know if its worth the hassle?   She takes solids no problem so there would be no worries of her not eating that afternoon.

Any thoughts?

If she'll drink some water and take her solids I'm sure it will be fine.  I went back to work when Allie was 8 months old and she never took a bottle ::) an she was just fine with it (the ped gave the ok on it too, as long as she was staying hydrated) - and since it's for such a short time it would probably be fine even if she didn't drink all that much!

Have fun!!

Agree with Erin :) especially if she takes a sippy cup well you could even offer some ebm in there if you want! Otherwise if she's doing well with solids and you feed her right before and right after everything should be fine :-* Enjoy yourself, I'm jealous!!

you could have a ready-made carton of formula on standby just in case? takes the worry away.  Enjoy your concert :o)

Thanks ladies!  Had thought she would be fine but just wanted reassurance!

Enjoy yourself, I'm jealous!!

Thanks!!  This is the first time I'll have left R for more than an hour and probably the longest I've left M in a long time and had to say I am really looking forward to just being me and not being someone's mummy for just half a day!!

relax Shiv!!! She'll be grand!!!

At this stage I was in work ft on both and we were doing 7am, 3.30pm, 7pm and DF bfs....so a break from 7am to 3/3.30pm was included everyday. Emma never took a bottle either, once I grabbed it from her after I figured we were dealing with tongue tie at 6-7 weeks ;-) And she never took one again either....

Very jealous - love Bon Jovi myself.

Thanks Shivi xx

Funny i did think of you when I was in a panic and thought that Emma went about the same length of time without a BF when you were working.  I just wanted all bases covered so DH isn't ringing me during the concert telling me to come home!  Its in the RDS though so he'd be waiting a while!!
