What your A for 8 month old?
« on: June 17, 2011, 11:59:49 am »
Just struggling to get my head around her A's. Morning one is standing at just over 3 hours but afternoon is a bit hit and miss.

So just out of interest what is your A time for your 8 month old?

Anywhere from 3-3.5.  I actually thing R manages the longer A times well so tend to do 3 in the am then 3.5 after but it depends on whether we get silly short naps!

Thanks lovely. I'm thinking more along the lines of 3.5 possibly more for the afternoon. Wee man B is in nursery 2 am's a week now so trying to tweak a bit so she takes long morning naps (usually cut to an hour) on those days AND hopefully a longish PM nap too. It would hopefully keep us on top of this UT/OT loop we seem to be going round and round in.  ::)

That and give me a whole hour and a half to myself of course!!  ;)

Funny were out this morning at DH's nephew's sports day an weren't leaving until 11.45 (so 4 hours A time for R) and she slept over 1.5 hours (normally am lucky if I get an hour) so I am thinking we do need an A time increase in general.

How lovely....1.5 hours to yourself if tweaking works!!  M is going to preschool in Sept from 9.15-1.15 so am hoping R will be taking a good nap during that time.  Oh to have a chance to meal plan and have a cuppa in peace!!!

Its a sad state of affairs when this is what we are doing with our spare time. Makes me laugh because meal planning is exactly what I had in mind.

Anyways, she had 1.5h this morning for her nap and just went out like a light at 3hours 10 mins A. Was planning a longer w/d but she was falling asleep on my shoulder as I was singing to her.  ::) I could bet all my worldy possesions that she only naps for 45. Time will tell....

Hi Emma, I really like your question about A times for 8month olds but unfortunately the answer didnt help me. lol.. My LO is already doing 3.5 hr A's and has been since 6 months. And we still get 2 1.5 hour naps that I have to wake him from, so not sure when to increase the A. I'll keep reading and maybe find something.

Ahh if only I knew my 8 month olds A...we are getting pm nap refusals left right and centre no matter what 2nd A we do! First A is around 3hrs10 and we tend to get a long one. Really keen to see what is working for you ladies to see if it helps me in my mess!

My Lo is 8.5 months and her activity time has always been much less than her peers. Her first A time is 2h15min and then about 2h30 min and then about 4hr.. if I try and increase it then she gets OT. I don't know any other baby who has such a short A time for this age.. She used to have 2 1.5hr naps and one catnap but now just has 2 naps and often one is only 45mins.. all this eating solids and teething and crawling business seems to have had an effect on her naps and night sleep! MAybe I should try and increase her A time a bit in the morning ?? any thoughts?
thanks

I think if she can handle 4 hours later on she can definitely handle at least 2.45 earlier in the day. Increasing those As will also help to give her a longer nap. You could try increasing very very slowly....this is what I have to do to prevent meltdowns ie 5-10 mins every few days

I am BF but giving DS 1 bottle a day as my supply started to get low around 5 months. In saying that I think its okay now, but DS looks forward to his afternoon bottle now lol

I am just trying to work out how to change things around so to offer solids then milk. I think I am going to keep BF at least morning and BT till DS is 9-12 months then maybe just keep the BT BF till 12-15 months - But I suspect by then DS will have self weaned.

Mine turns 9 months in a week. In the last month, her A time in the morning is around 3.5 hr. If she had EMW and went back to sleep for a short while before I wake her at 7.30am, she will need her morn nap slightly earlier.

She's NEVER done 2 or more good naps, since she was a wee little thing, we found out she functions much better on a short (1/2 hr to 45 min) morning nap and then a long (2-3 hr) afternoon nap. If I were to let her have a long morning one, she will only nap 45 min in the afternoon (maybe UT?) and then get OT at bedtime!

So with a short morning nap, her next A time is about  2.75 to 3 hrs.
