Hi

Quick question.........she had 1hr 15 for her morning nap (I woke her at 11.30) I was thinking of putting her down for her afternoon nap at 2.45 so a 3hr 15 A time instead of a usual 3hr 30 A time. Does that sound ok or does it need to be shorter?

30 mins is OT.  Could be that the 1 hr 15 nap makes her sleepy by the 3 hr mark??  DD lost about 30 mins when I cut her back in the morning...

Yes it could definitely be that I need to put her down by the 3hr mark, she's at nursery today so I'll try tomorrow. She woke at 5am for the day so was definitely OT at BT

How's your routine looking over the last couple of days - maybe we can spot something if you post your EASY?

Saturday:

Wake 5am
Nap 8.30 (45mins which is very unusual)
Nap 12.45 (1hr 40)
Lunch 2.30 (usually 12.30-1pm)
Tea 5.30
Bath and bed 6-6.30
Sleep 7

Sunday:

Wake 6.15
Nap 9.45 (1hr, usually 1hr 30mins)
Lunch 1.30
Tried a nap at 2pm but she just wouldn't sleep!
Bath and bed 5.30-6
Sleep 6.30

Monday:

Wake 6.15
Nap 9.30 (1hr 30, I was supposed to wake her after 1hr 15 but got distracted by a phone call)
She was acting tired at around 2pm so I started getting her bottle ready and after her wind down she was gery drowsy in my arms so put her in her cot but she woke up. I tried for the next hour to get her to sleep but she just wouldn't.
Bath/bed 5.30-6
Sleep 6.15

She woke today at 5.30 and I'm going to cap her morning nap to 1hr 15 and see if that helps with the pm nap?

So Sunday & Monday she didn't take an afternoon nap at all - is that right ???

Looking at your days, she did the best naps AND night sleep on Saturday night, after she'd had the 45min AM nap.

My guess looking at that is on the days where she is having a longer AM nap, she's probably not tired enough to sleep when you are putting her down for her PM nap - hence why she is fighting.  I really would try capping that AM nap like we suggested.  Start with 1hr 15 & do it for 3 days & see how you go.  It may be that she actually needs the AM nap even shorter (45mins or less) but 1hr 15 is a good starting point.

I would also try & keep your AM nap no earlier than 9.30, even on the days she wakes early.  Its brutal, but I am learning through experience that allowing them to take the AM nap too early just promotes the EW.  We are currently capping our AM nap to try & combat EW, and for the last week I have pushed his AM nap out from 8.15am to 9.30am & capped it from 1hr to 45mins & now to 30mins.  Its been a VERY difficult week as DS has gotten incredibly tired, and for a few days his EW got even earlier.  HOWEVER, we stuck at it & it finally seems to be helping.  Today he slept til 6.30am (7pm BT) & that is the latest we have had in MONTHS.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Thankyou

Yeah on Sunday and Monday there was no afternoon nap. She's gone to sleep now (1.50pm - 3 1/2hr A time, I was hoping for 3 so that she wasn't OT but she wouldn't settle) but she wouldn't let me put her down in her cot so she's asleep on the bed in her room which isn't ideal but at least she's asleep. She was fine this morning and happily went down, I don't know what goes wrong in the afternoons!

I'll definitely do what you've suggested because I was thinking the same thing, that she did better on a shorter am nap.

So I keep the first nap at 9.30am for 1hr 30 for 3 days, then drop it to 1hr for 3 days then try 45 mins? I also keep the second A time short?

She's at nursery 2 days a week so that might get in the way a bit, I'll ask them to try and keep to our routine but obviously its more difficult than at home.
