Poop problems at sleep time
« on: June 29, 2011, 14:28:35 pm »

I am at a loss to do with this one ( and thanks everyone for all your advice on other issues in the past )

My LO is 25 months and almost always only does a poop in her diaper when I put her down to sleep.

Its definitely mostly on purpose last week when I came into the room I saw her squat and try her best to do it, saying "poopie in there" knowing that would get her out of the cot. So usually I have to take here out of the cot clean her up ( often a clothes change ) and then back in, and by that stage she is wired to the moon and OT,then it takes another hour or more before she sleeps.

Its totally throwing off everything, after those antics yesterday, she didnt nap until 2 and slept at 11 last night!

Today of course is totally OT, and terrible trouble again with the nap today.

I know potty training is an option but I think that's some months away. Also thinking of getting rid of the bottle before sleep,as maybe its moving things along. Oh the joys of parenting!  ;D

Maybe try getting rid of the bottle first and seeing if it helps, but PTing might also be an option.

Or even gradual PTing- so we had Nick sitting on the potty right after his PM bathtime and he usually had good success. SO, maybe one potty time right after bath and before bedtime. Make it fun, just read some books, blow bubbles, and encourage. If nothing happens, it's at least practice and relaxed time on the potty. If she does produce, then it's a really good headstart! :) Might as well try to accommodate her natural poop time...Nick still poops at 8PM most nights....sigh.

Kind of the same thoughts I had too.

Although I know it seems mad but a lot of it seems to be toddler antics, like she's doing it deliberately.
She very rarely does it when not in the cot and its either nap or bedtime.
Probably something to do with the milk.

Thanks for the advice

It doesn't sound mad at all.  We had a short period of time probably around 2.5yrs where it seemed DS1 was deliberately pooping right before bed to stall.  We never made a big deal out of it, just changed him and carried on, but it was definitely a PITA!  It happened maybe half a dozen times and then he just kind of got over it.
