when to start EASY for 3 week old
« on: July 07, 2011, 05:53:33 am »
Hi there

im not new to this forum as my nearly 2 year old has been on EASY since she was a weeeee baby, and now i have number 2 bubs i wish to get my little boy on EASY asap......here is a typical day

6.30am Eat
7.15am sleep, during this sleep he will make lots of noises as he gets wind so pick up and try for burp and may get one, i notice on this feed he gets a full feed and doesnt really sleep but off and on due to the wind. I am breastfeeding too.

wakes around 9am, sometimes earlier or a bit later...now do i feed at this time or wait until 9.30am, i guess just watch for his hunger cue?

9.30am feed, and when he feeds he is zonked due to the previous nap not taking or cutting short, so in bed by 10am
10am sleep and will sleep longer about 3 hours
1pm wake feed, watch for tired cues and put down around 2pm as he yawned but was wide awake, then it starts he is quiet and it escalates, so go in and try to burp but nothing and all quiet again, yawns again so put down, all quiet for awhile then starts crying, i think he is really tired by this stage

so in this case what do i do here, then get him up and feed again and we are all in another tired cycle and falls asleep straight away sometimes hard to get a burp up cos he is zonked from not sleeping previously
during the night he is fine, after a feed at 3.00pm today shoud i wake him after this and when is the next feed?

thanks for the help

Oh congratulations on your new little baby!

I started my DS early (at about 2 wks, he's now 6 months) but in a kind of relaxed way.  I think I was still feeding every 2 hrs at that point and it took him quite a while to get up to 3 hrs and he never made it to 4 hrs, so just a reminder that all babies are different and go at LO's pace.
The things I did which I consider important were to put down to sleep but at that young age he was sometimes already asleep so I told him, 'I'm putting you down now so you can sleep properly'.
I introduced a lovey (muslin square, always had one with him when eating/burping/cuddling and for falling to sleep but I didn't leave it with him when asleep at that age for SIDS risk).
I always let him sleep as long as he wanted regardless of when feeds 'should be' as we could always catch up on food easily.
Always cuddled when he cried.  I tried to put him down drowsy but he got lots and lots of cuddle time and some naps he slept on me as long as some where in his cot.
I used to put him to sleep in the living room for day naps then.  It wasn't until about 10 wks that I moved his naps to his night time bed and that was his choice not mine.

For me at that age it wasn't about feeding on time or getting the right number of naps for the right amount of time, it was more about avoiding bad habits and prop pitfalls.  I felt I had no problems until about 4 months then a really tricky patch which we seem to have overcome now.

Enjoy your baby xx
