i am using two inserts the boosters and double fold over
I know it's frustrating but over stuffing a cloth nappy can make it leak because it gets so stuffed that the fit becomes poor. When it's on look for 'air' around waist and legs, it needs to be a snug fit, but you shouldn't be getting it digging in his legs at all.
he seems to pee straight up and at an angle wetting the tie over part of the nappy and all up the side of him
don't totally understand this, don't know what the tie over part of the nappy is, you mean the waist? Is the pee shooting up through a gap at the waist??
Give him a dressing down...haha...you know like some men dress to the left, some to the right, poke it down as you put the nappy on so pee is directed down into the body of the nappy and not directed up towards the waist band.
when he does a poo do you throw yours straight in the machine?
breast fed poo is usually ok to go straight in the machine and most of it soaks into the insert anyway. Formula poo, explosive or solid poo, put it in the loo. If it's solid enough it can roll off into the loo, otherwise (there are various methods but this is mine) use an old spoon to scrape gunky poo off the surface and wipe it on tissue, drop down loo. Keep the spoon in with your loo brush in the bathroom. Might seem yuck now when you are used to disposables, but you wipe his pooy bum so not much different really. Then the nappy can go straight in the machine, cold rinse, hot wash (very little detergent), cold rinse.
Other than needing more pre-washes to increase absorbency I'm not sure what's going wrong for you. It could be the extra fluids going in with night wakings. I just use my regular day cloth nappies at night with an extra booster added, it's not too big, but I do change at the dream feed and I don't feed again after that. DS has a cold at the moment so we have had a couple of NWs and I've given water and milk and his nappy has been more soaked in the morning but we only had one actual leak with this additional fluid intake.
What sort of boosters and inserts do you have? Hemp and bamboo are more absorbent than cotton, microfiber absorbs faster.
