naps for almost 7 month old
« on: July 19, 2011, 15:44:08 pm »
Within the last 4 days, my DS has been going 3 hours or more for his A times....when he could barely make it to 2.5H before that.....is this ok?  He isnt even acting tired, I have to make him settle down.  He does go right to sleep but I think its very strange that he has jumped to that long of an A time.  His naps are also shortening...they used to be 2 hours long and now they are going to barely 1.5H.....I am still trying to get him on a routine but here was yesterdays semi EASY....
Wake 6:15
E 7:15
solids 8:15
A 3H
S 9:15-10:15

E 11:15
A 3H
S 1:15-2:25

E 3:30
A 2.5H
CN 5-6
Solids, Bath and bottle
BT 7:35

3hrs is right about average for 7 months old, it sounds like he's doing fine!

are the shortened naps ok??  I am getting ready to drop the CN as well.  Just making sure it looked ok.  So then he will eat still every 4 hours or later??  Is it ok for him to go past 3H A time?

Ideally he would be napping a bit longer, say 1.5hrs, but if he doesn't seem overtired then he will probably be fine. He will be eating a bit longer than 4hrs (3hrs A and 1.5hrs nap), but that's fine too as he will be having solids by this point too.

Whiny, fussy, waking up crying, short naps (like 30 mins short), waking frequently in the early part of the night (after bedtime) crying.

Yesterday was pretty good, he stayed up a little over 3H for both A times and then took 2-2hr naps!!  My mom had to wake him both naps....then he only went 2.5H for his last A time before bed.  He fell asleep eating his last bottle.  Bless his heart!!!.  He slept great in his crib from 7:45-11:30 then I couldnt get him settled (crying, could that be the OT you were talking about??) so I put him in bed with me and she slept from 11:30-7am without waking!!! This is a first!! If I could get that for a few more days, we will have one happy momma!!! I am hoping for another good nap day for him....keep your fingers crossed for me.

Fingers crossed!! That's a great day! I don't think that 11.30pm wake up sounds like OT, especially after such good naps - do you think it could be teething?

Yeh teething can be like that though... may be worth trying pain meds and see if it helps?

Do you usually - or sometimes - bring him into bed with you, could that be the issue?

He used to sleep with me up until about 3 weeks ago.  I moved him into his crib thats in my room.  He should be used to sleeping in his crib by now as I have never cracked until last night b/c I am exhausted and I need sleep.  But he didnt sleep well in bed with me either before then....so I dont think that is it either.  I think maybe he does miss me but he isnt very far from me at night regardless....

So what happens when he wakes crying, how do you try and settle him? What usually happens and what happened last night?
