5 month old night waking
« on: August 09, 2011, 09:48:26 am »
My lo is 5 months old and for the past 4 weeks he has been NW 6 times a night. One of those is to feed and the others he just cries until he gets a cuddle. I dont understand it. He was doing so well. I know he is teething..very sore gums but why would that settle when he gets picked up?? He doesnt wake up he is asleep but cries and cries until I pick him up. If i try to shh pat it completely wakes him up.  ??? Im going crazy as i am so tired :o

He usually feeds every 5 hours during the day at approx 130-180mls
A time is 2 hours and there are 3-4 naps during the day from 1.5 hours and the last one is only 45 mins.
He is also eating solids just rice cereal and some fruit puree for twice a day.
He wakes at 6am and sleeps at 6.30-7.00pm for the night.
Oh he also sleeps with white noise.
He usually feeds at 11pm and then again at 4.30 or 5.00am.

Hi, I am sorry no one responded sooner.  Somehow I am just seeing this.

You say sometimes there are 4 naps?  What would a day look like then?  I am just wondering how much sleep you have.  That would seem like a lot of sleep during the day.

What did your day look like yesterday? Can you post it in EAS format?

Hi Kara ... thanks for the response

E: 4.30am 180mls milk
A: 6.30am
S: 8.30-9.30

E: 9.30am 130mls
S: 11.30-1.30am

E: 2.30pm 150mls
S: 4.30pm-5.00pm

E: 6.30pm 150mls
S: 7.00pm

Now the night waking will start awake 8pm 9pm 11pm etc etc every one to two hours he just cries ... after 11pm he might go till 3am he usually needs two feeds its not from hunger. He might eat at 9pm and then again at 4.30am. Dont know why he does this. Am i doing something wrong?

How does your LO seem at bt?  He is doing a 2 hour A all day and then a 2 hour A on a 30 minute CN.  Do you think he is OT at bt?  I am thinking if you want a 7 pm bt, maybe make the nap 45 minutes?  Normally, NWs so close to bt are OT for us.

What do you think?

Hi Kara
Thanks for the response. Sorry its taken a while.
I have started sleep training him because his day naps have become shocking. I only started two days ago and he has been sleeping like a baby (lol) during the day. He will two one and half maybe abit longer naps and then a shorter one hour or 45 minute nap for his last sleep for the day.
The firt night we did this he only woke twice at night for food (I am using the shhh pat method). Last night was a whole diff story. He slept so well during the day...but was not interested in food in the afternoon...he was winging and wining and biting his hand so I thought I would give him some panadol for teething. Didnt do much. He went to sleep at 6.00 and woke at 7 woke at 8.30 for a full bottle of milk, woke at 11.00 (gave him more milk thought he might be hungry) wasnt interested woke at 12.30 then woke again at 3.30 (took me an hour here to get him back to sleep using shhh pat) then woke at 6.00am. What is the go with all the night waking again... im losing the plot with a 3 year old to look after during the day and the lack of sleep.

(((HUGS))) That sounds like discomfort to me.  When my LO is teething, we need Ibuprofin at night.

Any chance there is something else going on?  ear infection?  Something else causing discomfort?
