I battled 5 yeast infections until DD was 12 weeks old - it was horrible. Went through the worst pain ever. She is 4.5 mt old now.All of a sudden since 2 days I have heavy discomfort again when I latch her on - for about the first 5 min and than once she is done again...just the same weird initial feeling, like little stabs.she is teething but has none cut through yet. Is is her or is my infection back ??? I pray this is not the case.

I never had thrush but what I hear is that it's VERY hard to heal completely, so it might be the case that it just hadn't really healed properly... :(
I would get checked.

oh it's awful. I was on and off everything you can possibly imagine. Cut out sugar completely, dairy everything that triggers yeast. Was on half a dozen supplements and ended up on 3 courses of medication and also treated LO. I had a very severe case and 3 docs didn't know what to do with me. I almost did not make it through with breast feeding - but my stubborn head wouldn't let me give up, even when I pumped crying for weeks under tremendous pain.
I just cannot believe or even imagine this could be back...
I guess I have to get checked :(

The problem is with the mold/yeast spores, they are stubborn little things. Most treatments that are topical only treat the yeast once it has 'opened' from the spore stage. What could have happened is that you put on a top or bra that had some spores that just opened out - and thought woohooo! I'll have me some of that nice sugary milk.

I know it sounds like Im pointing out the obvious but make sure your stuff - particularly your Bras are washed really well (also do you use disposable or re-usable pad at all?) and dry them outside in the sunlight. molds and the like love warm dark moist environments, so  - and we are all guilty of this - when you take off clothes etc we just throw them in the nice dark wash basket with everything else! try and hang your bras up to dry out before washing them.

hope that helps

I used disposable pads, vinegar is really helpful in your wash and I ended up being treated orally with a pill to flush my system. Is the lo being treated? I used nystatin on her mouth right before feeding and put it on my nipples right before and she nursed it off. I also had a lot of Dr Jack Newman's All Purpose Nipple Ointment. It's amazing, just make sure it's the ointment and not the cream concoction.

I was treated with 3 courses of diflucan and nystatin ointment as well as the supplements and nipple creams. and yes also LO was treated with nystatin but that was back in june....ive been ok since.
I do use re-usable pads ...now u make me wonder if one of them had anything left on it...but i do wash with hot water...hmmmm... im prob gonna take a one pill of diflucan that i have left, it can under no circumstances return like it did. today is status quo....thank you for your reply ladies

My LC said you can also put your bras and reusable pads in the microwave and that also kills it but I never tried that one. I did soak my reusables in vinegar though then hot water cycle.

Fingers crossed for you this works. Thrush is a PITA.
