Terrible evenings please help
« on: August 28, 2011, 19:29:20 pm »
The last few evening have been terrible with my 5 week old...

She feeds around 5 and I try and get her down about 6.30 but she gets so windy that she fights it, gets over tired, clears her wind (by 7.30) then hungry again and then we end up feeding her ( sometimes by bottle as she gets too cross at the breast) and it starts all over again... She crashes after a little milk and then wakes for more 20 minutes later... Crashes... Has more crashes.. Gets windy or hungry again 20 minutes later.. Feeds .. Crashes and we get her down hours later!

HELP!!!

How is her day?  Is she getting OT as the day goes on?

Mmmm first nap of the day tends to be an OT fight but the others are ok MOST of the time. But she is still so little AND needs a top up feed to go down it is always a race against time!

She can only manage 1 - 1 and a half hour Awake including feeding ( which tajes over half that time).

At 5 weeks my LO was only managing 1 hour A time and I think thats typical.  So pushing it beyond at hour at this stage is probably leading to OT accumulating over the day.

I wonder if you stuck to an hour would it help balance things out and lead to more restful evenings?   And doing an hour A time means you may not need a top up?

Oh she needs the top up or she wakes from her nap early, downs a little more feed and then crashes!

Do you mean awake for 1 hour including feed?

Last night was better... Fed at 6, top up at 7 and then down. She woke an hour later with wind and then hic ups bet fell asleep until midnight!!

Yes A time is eyes open to eyes shut.  So includes feeding too.  Is that how you've been counting it?

yay for a good night last night x
