Frequent NWs in the early part of the night
« on: August 30, 2011, 23:01:59 pm »
Since I last posted on the NW board, my 10-month-old is doing much better with regards to the long, middle-of-the-night NWs. In general, sleep is going SO much better--she has great naps, and goes down very well at naps and BT without much help from me at all.

However, lately the big problem are frequent NWs in the early part of the night. For example, last night she went down well and was sound asleep by 7:15pm. Then she was up at 8pm, 10pm, and 10:30pm--each time getting louder and more angry.

I find with these NWs she is generally quite upset, but will settle quickly if I go to her and lay her back down, and put her soother in. However, if her dad tries to settle her at this time, she goes ballistic and I have to go in. (he can usually settle her down again when she isn't too worked up.)

I worry I might be tending to her too quickly, but I find she goes from 0 to 60 in these instances, and to me, it sounds like she is giving a "needy" cry right away. When the times I have tried pausing and letting her resettle, she gets furious and I need to take her out of the crib for a breather; plus, by then she'll often have woken her sister up.

I'm just not sure why she has these frequent angry NWs--and it is frustrating because it is getting so that I can't leave the house at all in the evenings.

I should also add, to complete the whole picture at this point, that early WTs are happening, too, with Emma.

And just in case this is necessary, her general EASY is:

7am: WU, nurse
9:45-11am: nap
11am: nurse
12: lunch
1:45-3:15: nap
3:30: nurse
5:30: dinner
7 or 730: BT

The daytime routine goes very smoothly, and naps are great, no fussing before them at all. BT is great. The only snags now are these frequent, quick NWs and often an early WU of anywhere from 4:45 to 5:30am.

Thank you--this problem isn't going away, so I'd love some input here.

Jane, I think it might have been that her A time before BT was too long--I've shorted it from 4 hours to about 3.5 or 3.25 and the frequent early NWs seem to be fading out (we've gone from about 3 or 4 before midnight to none or 1) so I'll keep on this track and hope that it helps.

Of course, now Sophie is waking up consistantly at midnight for a bottle so now we've got another situation to deal with!
