Cluster feeding and spitting up?
« on: September 03, 2011, 22:14:47 pm »
My LO was doing great with cluster feeding every night from 5-9 and then sleeping. He's just hitting his 3 month growth spurt and has stopped eating as much (I know opposite of what should happen) and had stopped cluster feeding on his own. I'm still offering and he'll start eat, but the spits it all up. Not regular spit up but vomiting up everything that was in his stomach like he was full. So I stopped trying to cluster feed and am just following his hunger cues. Any suggestions? I didn't think they'd outgrow cluster feeding so soon.

My DS stopped cluster feeding around that age too. He is now 4.5 months and yesterday he fed at 2 and again about 6:30 after his bath. He slept from 7 til 6 with no NF's (NW's due to teeth which were soon fixed with a little teething gel).

Has his night sleep stretch decreased? If not, I wouldn't worry, he might just not need it any more.

Oh, and is he still putting on weight, weeing and pooing plenty etc.? If that's not happening, there's probably cause for concern but otherwise, do what you're doing :)

Thanks. Yes, he's still has wet & dirty diapers. No concerns really. Just wondering why he stopped. He usually sleeps a 5-6 hr stretch with one NF and then another 3ish hours.

They just get bigger and more efficient at feeding, so they're not empty enough for another feed so soon. I found tanking up with feeds around 2 hours apart was the last bit of cluster feeding... now DS won't have a bar of it - just looks at me like I'm a lunatic as if to say 'I only just ate mummy, why do you want me to eat again?'

Thanks. My problem is if I offer he'll start eating and then just spit it all up. I don't think he's actually done cluster feeding yet because he decided to do so last night from 1-4AM. I think I've just got him off his routine now. Guess I'll have to try and fix that.
