I think I've got a habitual night waking....
« on: September 15, 2011, 15:43:14 pm »
My LO was sleeping really well....from her DF (which was sometime between 10 and 11) she would sleep until 4/5am...she even slept right through until 6 and 6:45 a couple times...then she started waking earlier, and I assumed it was a growth spurt, so of course I fed her when she started waking at 2:30/3ish. Well it's been going on now for about 2 weeks, so I'm thinking it's become habit, as the growth spurt is definitely over. The last two nights I've been able to settle her with her paci when she wakes at 3, and then she sleeps until 5:30am, at which point I do feed her.

I'm thinking of trying wake to sleep to see if that helps. Does anyone have any experience/success with this? Is it possible that her waking from the growth spurt could have become habit, or am I out to lunch on this one? I'm assuming if she was really hungry at 3am, she wouldn't settle with her paci and wouldn't last another 2.5 hours.

If I do use wake to sleep, how long should I give it before I would see results? She is a textbook/angel baby  :D

No, if she were really hungry she wouldn't resettle for another 2.5 hours. I wonder though if the paci is your problem, what do you think?

I don't think it is, because she uses it 'properly' spitting it out after she's fallen asleep. She has good two hour+ naps without it having to be re-inserted and I know she wakes at the 45min mark and is able to resettle herself without any intervention. Does that make sense?

Yes - that's good ;D

I would go ahead and try W2S. Lots of people have done it with great success - just know that it might take some playing with timing to get it right.

Good, I'm glad you also feel the paci is not a prop. I'm always concerned that will happen. Soon I'm sure she'll replace it with her fingers/thumbs as she's constantly sucking them. We're jut not ready to wean the swaddle yet!

Wish me luck with W2S tonight. How many nights should I do it for before stopping? If I time it correctly tonight will she not wake at 3 like normal or will she still wake at 3? I'm just not sure what I should expect!

Have a look here if you haven't yet - http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=213387.0

You will need to do it at LEAST 3 times before it can have any effect, but most people do it for a week just to be sure. Like everything else, it takes some time so she will probably still wake for a few nights. But, also like everything else ;) who knows what LO will do!

Thanks. We had an odd night last night. She woke twice after she was put down at 8....which she's never done before! Once was right before I was going to dreamfeed her, so I just fed her and she fell back to sleep. I was unsure if I should still try the W2S....but I did. I went in at 2am and rubbed her face a bit to make her stir. She woke at 3:45am instead of 3....I tried to give her her paci...but she wasn't having it! She was hungry. I fed her and put her back down....I thought for sure she'd be up at 7, but she slept til 8am! I didn't know what to do with myself....I'm not used to being up before her! I will continue to do it for atleast 5 days and see what happens.

So last night I went in at 2am again and made her stir slightly....she slept until 4:30am after that....I hope this means it's working....of course she'll be 4 months soon, so I'm sure we'll get it all sorted out just in time for the big 4 month GS I've been hearing about!! :S
