Help with 2.5 year old NW
« on: September 23, 2011, 06:51:57 am »
Isn't typical. DS1 always been a good sleeper even as a baby. He is now 2.5 years. I have been battling NW with DD2 for the last 8 months and she has just started to sttn, hurrah!! Now DS has suddendly become a problem. He has to have one of us' to stay with him until asleep and he has started waking 2/3 times a night and wants one of us in bed with him. How should we tackle this? I don't really like to be too harsh as I know from past occasions he does settle after he starts to feel reassured again. In the past few months he has started to develop a really active imagination and often talks about lions, tigers etc when he wakes. He has also been more anxious about nursery as ge has just moved to the big room.

Hi there, can you post your routine? Sounds as though he may be a bit anxious with the changes and general development? We go through stages like this with DD1 and s'thing that's helped in the past is a "special" toy for her to have in bed. I say something like "this is special teddy he'll help you to feel safe and comfy and happy in bed" and if she's scared in the night she can hold him extra tight (obviously if she is really distressed she would call for us anyway) Might that work? X
Blessed mum to two home-birthed darling water babies

hey you with the pretty face, welcome to the human race

Thanks. He has special teddies. Do you think he could have been over tired? He is going through a stage of fighting his nap, somedays he sleeps for an hour and other days not. Yesterday he didn't nap and by 6pm was shattered. I told DH to get him to bed 7pm but he didn't go up until after 8. I think he was OT?

What time did he wake?  On a no nap day have him in bed 11-12 hrs from waking, sometimes less depending on the kid.  They really feel it when the nap doesn't happen.  Agree with Charli, let's see the routine.

It sounds developmental, no chance of illness right?  Last night we had a NW from my 2.5yo who was hanging over the crib rails crying 'water' over and over again.  He finished all his water.  This morning he had a runny nose and generally looks like he's got a cold.
The tweaking never stops!
