Waking at dreamfeed
« on: October 09, 2011, 18:49:44 pm »
Hello,
We started EASY just over a week ago now but my little girl (4 1/2 months) has woken up every time we've attempted the dream feed. Is this normal? It can take a while to get her back to sleep and I don't know if I should continue.
Does anyone have any thoughts/similar experiences?
Clare.

What time are you doing the df?
My lo does occasionally wake, it is usually if he didn't drink all his bedtime feed so must be hungry. My dh does the feed and sometimes just feeds him anyway but that can backfire as he falls asleep before drinking it all. Other times he waits fo him to fall back to sleep before he feeds him.

We've been doing the feed between 10-11pm although we've had a few nights where she's woken around 9.30pm and we've ended up feeding her then.
We do the bedtime feed at around 5.45pm - we've never managed to get to 7pm yet, so maybe she is waking because she's hungry. We're trying to do the 4 hour routine but feeds tend to be more like 7am, 11am, 2.30, 5.45 (then the dream feed and another at some point early hours).

Yes I think you are right, she is hungry before 10-11 pm window. Does she have a catnap? Our lo has a catnap at around 5.00 pm (Only 30 mins) this gets him to bath at 6.30 pm and then feed and bed.

I try but don't always manage to get her down for a catnap. I usually need to feed her so early in the evening because she's so tired - if she hasn't had a nap she's falling asleep on the last feed. Even with a catnap she's exhausted by the evening - she doesn't usually manage 2 good sleeps during the day (today was about 1 1/2 hrs in the morning but had to resettle after the 1/2 hour and only 1/2 hour in the afternoon.)
Maybe I should be waking her up for the dreamfeed earlier, then? Around 9ish?

Yes maybe, but also need to work on the afternoon nap as if that is extended then all will fit better. Try earlier df if you can'y extend nap. i shouldn't advocate ap for that nap but i have to with my lo after 30 mins if he wakes I do rest of nap in my arms so that he gets the sleep.
