waking early or changing schedule?
« on: October 28, 2011, 18:23:50 pm »
My 4 mo baby girl used to be a great sleeper- always goes down on her own, 2 hours in the morn 1.5 in the afternoon and a catnap in the evening (though that one has always been pretty tough to get her down).  Anyway- I'm pretty sure she's in a growth spurt and has waken up early/cranky from naps to bf.  Today she woke after just over an hour- i tried shushing and pu/pd, only cried louder, was so anxious for food, but after 20 min, fell asleep again at the breast.  I'm so paranoid about falling into accidental parenting, but it's only been two days... tips?

I always work on the logic that as long as you don't AP all the naps to extend then you have to go with the flow at times when they're going through growth spurts or teething.  How's she been getting on?  Has she been managing to extend on her own or have you been having to AP to get her to extend?

There is a HUGE GS at 4 months - In fact it was the only one I every really noticed with Z! If she usually sleeps independently and your gut tells you she is out of sorts with a GS or teeth or anything like that then a day or two wont ruin her independent sleep IMO and I would just got with the flow. I would however keep this at the back of your mind and maybe if after a few days things are the same we can have a look at your EASY?

LOL mine timed out and Karen has now replied :P Pretty much agree with everything she has said!

Things haven't been regular for about a week now, and the next week and a half will be crazy because of my sister's wedding, so I know there will be little consistency... sigh.  She was waking at night as well- I think due to a growth spurt.  Last night she finally slept through, though woke over an hour earlier than she usually does for the day... I'm going to try not to get too worked up about everything till late next week when we can get back into a routine though.

Your day doesnt look that bad :) Do you think you could pull that CN and your BT forward A bit? I think this would make your overall day more balanced and prevent OT buildup throughout the day. THe A between your PM nap and CN is a bit long as is the CN to BT. Maybe try the CN 2hrs after PM Nap WU and then BT 1-1.5hrs after CN WU? If you think you will find it hard to be in a routine over the next few weeks and she is short napping ie in the car a lot. Just offer more naps more frequently to keep OT at bay (ie 4 x 45min naps) :-*
