should I just leave it alone?
« on: October 28, 2011, 21:34:20 pm »
Levi has an A time of 1 hour, 1 hour 5mins at max. Ive tried gently increasing it by 5 mins more for a few days and we end up with NO wind-down time because he has a complete meltdown and I have to put him straight into his cot, he hates this because he loves a wind down of about 5-10mins. sometimes he ends up mantra crying to sleep, other times i have to help him by patting etc. Hes just over 3 months old and I cant figure out why he wont extend his A time. he is however, still sleeping till the next E time where he will either wake by himself or I will wake him so hes not short napping which tells me the A time is correct for him right?

Should I keep pushing it or leave it? Im just a bit concerned we arent ever going to get to a 4 hour EASY with this low A time not budging.

Hi I would leave it till 3mo 2weeks and then try extending again you may even see that in a few short weeks he will extend it himself. I can def say that the 3hr easy can be frustrating sometimes bc it leaves little to no room for going out or getting much done. However it won't last for long even if it seems that way:) Good luck, let me know how it goes:)

I agree to leave it a couple of weeks.  I believe if you have an EASY that's working, with a happy baby that's sleeping well for naps etc then go with it, he may extend it himself in the next few weeks, or not.  My DS stayed on 3 hr E until 6 months, there was no way he could go a moment longer so we never made it to a 4 hr EASY until we started solids.  I used to have to track A times and E times separately so that A's were gradually extending with age but E's stayed at 3 hrs, but it worked out and a happy baby usually results in a happy mummy.

I would leave it! My DD3 is the same age and we are getting a mix of short naps and long naps...the long naps often need to be resettled at 40 mins with the dummy etc. If I had a LO having long naps every time I would figure I had it just right!
I would just keep an eye on whether your LO takes a full feed or not...if you think the feeds need to be stretched longer you could just do EASAEAS etc to space the feeds so they are nice and hungry. If they aren't ready for longer A time I wouldn't push it.

Could it be that he's been sick and he's just catching up. Maybe like pps said give it two weeks and then try extending.

Thanks I will leave it for now, he drinks a full bottle leaving just a little atthe end so he's obviously hungry at the right time. I did wonder about him catching up after illness but it's been about a month since he was ill unless you are taking about from the reflux?

I know I shouldn't complain and that every baby is different but I was just unsure how I was gonna handle the 4 your changeover. But then again my friend has a 7 month old that has only just gone up to 1.5 hours A time and still sleeps 2 hours so it does happen :)
