Hi
Not sure where to post this as it about my toddler's sleep which is also impacting my pre-preschoolers sleep......
DS is 22 months and for the last 3 months or so his routine was:
Wake 7/7.30
Nap 12.30
Wake 2 .30 (I wake him)
Bed 7pm
DD has just turned 3 1/2 and she was napping 1 1/2 hours 4 days a week (other 3 days were kindy days) until 5 weeks ago when she dropped her nap completely. Her routine (until 2 weeks ago) was wake at 7/7.30am and to bed at 7pm - same routine whether she napped or not. She has adjusted to dropping her nap very well, she is not cranky, but she does say and I can see, she is tired by 7pm.
The issue is that for the last 2 weeks DS has been waking between 6.15am and 6.30am and waking DD in the mornings. DS will talk away to himself quietly (but it still wakes her and I) until I get him at 7am. DD however has been crying in her bed once she is woken saying DS woke her and that she didn't want to wake up yet. I have been trying to keep her in her bedroom until 7am - which is a bit hit and miss (until this time she has never once gotten out of her bed until I get her in the mornings!), she can read her books etc but she tends to just keep calling out every now and then. Once she is up she is fine, box of birds.
So DS routine now looks like this:
Wake 6.30am
Nap 12.15/12.30 (if I put him down earlier even though he seems tired, he still falls asleep at this time)
Wake 2.30pm (I wake him)
Bed 7pm
While 6.15/6.30am isn't a bad wake up time, DD has always slept until at least 7am since I can remember (and DS has been a 7am boy at the earliest). I am a bit worried that she is now being woken at least 1/2 hour earlier than usual the last 2 weeks and that coupled with no nap might just get too much for her - it's the reason I have been trying to keep her in bed until 7am. I suppose my question is should I tweak DS routine to try and get him back to sleeping longer in the mornings? Perhaps cap the nap at 1 1/2 hours? He is getting less sleep as well but I think it is just a natural progression to him not needing as much? It is daylight savings here now so I think putting DD down earlier that 7pm will be very difficult.
Sorry it's a rambling post... any suggestions would be great.
