Rolling over and waking
« on: November 04, 2011, 16:54:42 pm »
Hi, I need some advice! One of my twins (5 months old, 3.5 months adjusted age) has just learned how to roll over onto his tummy and now he is rolling over at night in the crib. Then spends some time pushing up and kicking (definitely playing, not sleeping), and then he vomits (he has mild reflux) and cries, and then I have to go clean him up. He definitely does know how to roll back onto his back, but he doesn't do it at night, even after he throws up. So I go clean him up and put him on his back drowsy but awake, and he immediately rolls over again as soon as I leave. Over and over. I ended up moving him to the bouncy chair last night after 2 hours of this. The pediatrician says to let him stay on his tummy if he rolls over on his own, but even when he is making himself throw up? What to do?

Very common problem :)  Once they learn a new skill they have an innate compulsion to practice. The best way to combat them doing that at sleep times is to offer as much time as LO wants to practice during A times. I have to totally disagree with your pediatrician though - I'm actually rather horrified at that advice. It can help to roll up a couple of towels and put them under the sheet so LO can't roll over ;)

Hi there,

You could try a sleep positioner? Same idea as the rolled up towels but they are a little more "breathable" so prevent overheatin etc. Where r u in the world? We got a couplr fairly cheap off the amazon website.
