scared at BT, nap time
« on: November 08, 2011, 04:52:44 am »
So we have had a bit of a bad experience on Halloween and now Hayden is really scared all the time and can't stop thinking about this man who would come jump out of the dark and scare him. During the daytime he seems to slowly get better and is less scared, but at night and also when falling asleep for his nap it seems to be getting worse. He now takes up to 45 min to fall asleep for BT and nap during which he calls me back very frequently because he is panicky and thinks that the man is coming. We are also now having night wakings that last over an hour during which he can't go back to sleep and where I am in and out of his room constantly.  Has anybody gone through something similar or has an idea of how I can make this easier for him, ie say something a bit more reassuring than just that there are no more scary men cause Halloween is over? Thanks everybody.

Aw poor little man :( Do you talk to him about it in the day time, maybe spend some time in his room with him, and nip out to go to the loo etc, getting him more used to being in there alone? And how about a nightlight and a "safe toy?"

Nightlight is not good, it disturbs his sleep. And he has a ton of toys already in bed. I think we are over the worst part but he still takes almost an hour to go to bed now and calls me back a ton of times. I am not sure if it is because he is still scared or because he got so much attention lately so that he continues to want it now. Just now it is 10pm and he is crying so hard and so OT. ::)

Actually, on second thought could this difficulty falling asleep have to do with me going back to work? It has been 2 days now and both nights he had huge problems falling asleep. He was in daycare till this July but then home until now, and is with his dad now when I am at work. But maybe he has trouble letting go at night cause he doesn't get enough mom time during the day. ???

Hmm could be due to the transition in general, how's about a nice long wind down with lots of cuddles with mum? Xx
