approx what age do lo's go to 4 bottles...
« on: November 11, 2011, 11:10:48 am »
DD is 5.5 months. she has 5 milk feeds a day of 7oz and for the last 3 nights no NF's! She is on a 3.5 hour feeding routine although sometimes it is more like 4 hours and sometimes 3.15 depending on naps. she has 1 small solid meal and we are doing purees and working slowly through the first foods. just wondering when i should be thinking of moving her to 4 bottles...is there an average age...

thanks

If she was on a 4 hour EASY she would have 4 day time bottles then either a DF or a NF (or both ;)). Most bottle fed babies can handle a 4 hour EASY at around 4 months really.

Is she drinking all of her 7oz bottles?

yes she is...should i go to 4 8oz bottles then...i don't think i need to worry as she is taking plenty of milk. the nursery run etc messes up our day so getting on a 4 hour easy is hard with naps.

If she is draining her bottles you neeed to put more in them. At the end of a bottle feed there should be a small amount left so that you know she has stopped because she is full and not just because the bottle is empty.

School runds do make life more complicated don't they ::)!

ok, do you think it would be better for her to go onto a 4 hour EASY feeding routine or is 3.5 ok if it is working?

It's up to you really, if she will last to 4 hours and take bigger feeds (which is what should happen) that will make introducing solids easier as she will have longer between milk feeds to fit the solids in!

If you want to leave it at 3.5 hours until you get more into solids and then stretch her out a bit that would be ok too - especially if her nights are good at the moment!

will try this...think once we properly start solids at 6 months I will go to 4 hourly feeds.
thanks!
