As the post subject says really.... my very nearly 2yr old (it's her birthday in 3 days) hasn't napped today and also didn't on Monday at nursery.  I'm not at all surprised as she's pretty low sleep needs and has only been having 1 hour naps for a few months now.

I'm sure I've heard or read that toddlers often need less sleep from age 2 but have also heard they can need less sleep temporarily and then naps came back. I'm just interested in peoples experiences I guess as nights are great - 11-12 hours solid.

Is this fairly typical and those of you who had this, did naps come back properly or did you start getting into the realms of some days your LO napped, and some they didn't?

We've had over 6 months of looking like we're losing the nap and then back it comes. We've even had periods where he's slept more than he ever has! So, yes. This is likely to be a temporary thing. You may find she wants to keep some no nap days, or you may find you need to cap the nap on certain days. It all depends on how she copes with it, and whether her nights begin to get affected by how she's napping.

This is happening to us too! I have no idea but a good friend mentioned today it might be a phase. So I am going to follow this thread to see what responses you get

I remember my dd have a week of no naps just after her 2nd birthday as she totally refused them!  Just keep trying every day and then she started napping again and didn't drop till over 3.5 so I wouldn't worry yet!

Yep ours was on the way out and then came back with a big bang.  But we have to watch the length.
The tweaking never stops!

1.5 hrs...he would do longer if we didn't wake him.  But he's currently pulling 9 hrs at night so something had to give...just not sure if we are making the right decision.

Same boat. DS is doing 10 hrs at night with a capped nap of 1.5 - sometimes 2 hrs when I just need that extra time to myself.

The few days he's had no nap he's slept 12 hours! Unheard of round here - BUT every one of those nights there has been an NW...hmmm...

Nap time is major battler though - today we tried at 12.30 then at 1 and it took until 2.10 to get him down.

Thanks for the replies - interesting to hear others are going through the same thing - I presume at the same time?

Lily did nap yesterday in the end - at 3.30 in the car on the way to a friends. Didn't really want her to sleep by then but I let her have half an hour and we got a 5.30am wake up as a reward! Think that nap yesterday was too late.... Unfortunately we had the same today as we were out all day for her birthday treat so another half hour nap in the car at 3.45pm.  Oh well! Back to normal tomorrow! Wonder if she'll nap....

Aah lucky you! Lily will do 1.5 hours very occasionally if she's ill but we're already down to 1 hour naps (give or take 15 mins). Don't think naps will be around for too much longer but she did have an hour at her usual time today so looks like they're not going quite yet - yay!
