Amazed
« on: November 11, 2011, 17:27:34 pm »
Alyssa was in hospital over night due to croup and high fever.
HER pead came and saw her after i asked for some neocate as we only had one bottle worth left. they then decided to do a kinda dairy trial and give her nutramigen (previous reactions as a baby) I 100% belive this is due to the cost to the hospital

I knew it wouldnt turn out well infact im so cross for letting them do it but i felt i had no choice after all drs know best dont they

We gave her only 3oz

Within 10 minutes of finishing it she was blowing wind all over the place

Within 20 minutes her eyes had swollen!!!!
and then she was just screaming in pain for over an hour

Well the dr said it was coincidence and to do with the croup but im sorry but no way do i belive that she has had croup for almost a week now (well the virus for a week the cough a few days) and it never happened before
her throat was already swollen anyway so cant say for sure if it changed or not

2 hours later the swelling eased slightly but it only went down during the night with the help of anti histamines

And today we had liquid nappies the only kind of solidness to is the mucus (and it burnt her bum)

I am kind of shocked Nutramigen caused such a bad reaction and very cross i let them do it, i felt physically sick as she guzzled those 3oz as i KNEW it wouldnt go well

If i had of known how bad it would of been i never would of but i did expect some crying and the mucus but not the eyes

I shouldnt of agree'd to it i am really cross at myself, Just changed her for bed and the poo earlier burnt her bum so bad she is actually raw on her legs

Its given me strength in my convictions though, NO ONE will make me do any food challanges now untill I feel in my stomach its right for her

I am phoning our DR on monday and pushing for the allergy testing I can tell them how bad the reaction was in the hospital and tell them we NEED the allergy clinic because what if that had of been proper milk! it makes me shudder to think

Disgraceful, really disgraceful  >:( I think allergy testing is very importnat especially with allergies in the family. When my dd was a baby they wanted to do a milk trial and I asked what was the point, I knew she couldn't tolerate it and they didn't really know what to say!

I know it is OT but your girls have the most beautiful names  :D

Thanks I like them lol ;)

As for a whats the point they said to me... She will be able to tollerate more foods if we put her on nutramigen... err why its still dairy free so she still cant have dairy, and it makes no difference to gluten, eggs, sals and soy

I am very worked up about it I got a picture of her eyes when the reaction began to die down a bit but i dont know where my phone is lol

Still going, week later still vile poo and plenty of mucus... her poo burns her bum we get her comfortable with bepanthen and then she poo's again and it gets worse she now has patches which are bleeding on her bum

To add insult to injury we got our allergy clinic letter and the consultant which gave her the nutramigen is the named dr on there

I am writing a timeline of the reaction I also took a picture of the poo today which made her bottom bleed

Poor wee baby girl.

I can't believe you are goign to have that consultant.  I hope he is VERY apologetic about the risk he took with your precious baby without thoroughly knowing her history.

I know I am hoping he doesn't have anything to do with it maybe has to be named on it as he is the main consultant for the childrens ward where it is held because he never has seemed to know much

My husband thinks I should complain about the whole thing and i think I am, it's not so much the chance they took they took the chance promising me support if she did react but instead just denied it happened ooo im getting cross again

I actually would complain if only for the reason that I would want it documented and on her file incase when you start with the allergy clinic that they try to push for another trial soon and at least then you have this epiode on record KWIM?

I've written the complaint... then realised I have no ink lol
I am going to email family see who can print it for me

Good point, I know the allergy clinic for any positive results then try the foods (they put it on the outside of the mouth, then the lips and finally digest it) i would not be willing for the with milk I know its to check kind of reaction they have so those who need epi pens etc have them but after being told they would watch her before no way
