how to recover from OT when LO ready for 2-1.
« on: November 18, 2011, 10:29:49 am »
Hi Ladies,

Things have been rough here for a solid 3wks. A bout of SA, Three teeth have cut (one more visible) and we all have just recovered from gastro.

I couldn't figure her out. I put her down and she'd wake after an hour (OT) but also was waking in the morning around 4/5 wide awake. After reading 2-1 FAQ she definiately is ready for transition BUT has massive OT accumulation.

How to I tackle both?

When they are ill they often need more sleep so I would let her.  During the 2-1 transition Murray would have some days where he slept and others when he didn't - I really just had to follow his cues and see if he needed a nap, or not.

p.s WHat a tough time you have had xx
L x Having a bw break from 1 Feb 2012 - if you want to get in touch please send me a pm.  I may not be here but you are all in my thoughts xxxx (probably be back some time)

still happily married, just not counting!

Hugs Hun, we went through this a while back. :-*

Is she still poorly? If so as Lucy said you often have to go its them.

If she is well now can you post your EASY? It is hard when they are OT but sometimes a tiny tweak helps them catch up. I would APOP a bit if you think she needs it to catch up, just be aware you ay have to do a bit of Sleep training after.

she is coming out of the illness now. She doesn't have set wu or BT but does have set A times.

Wu 9 BF
A time 3.5hrs-3.75max
Nap#1 2hrs
A time 3hrs
Nap#2 1.5hrs (lately more like 1hr)
Bt 2.5hrs after nap. Can't do more than that to BT without OT.

Today she was up at 7 and wanted to be back in bed around930 but I had to bath her. (put cereal in her hair!!) so bed by 10. Fed to sleep to reduce OT and slept till 1. Then during Lunch only 2hrs after wu she looked wrecked again. Put her down but got OT nap wake up. Then couldn't eat dinner because she was too tired.
Vicious cycle or what???

So do I go with the flow for a few days? How does she catch up on sleep?

I don't mind sleep training too much. She's had a good foundation and reverts pretty quick. Touch wood she will again.

P.S thanks for sympathy re our last few weeks. The bags under my eyes r not pretty right now!

I've committed to staying home to help her catch up and to tweek EASY.

Okay, here is what I think....let me know if it sounds right or not :-\
IF she is having good nights and a good AM nap and total sleep is 13 hrs or more then this could just be routine related, remembering she has been poorly and her body may be adjusting again and catching up.

If the above sounds right I would work on pushing out that first A time gently and let her sleep as long as she likes. It looks like she likes a long morning nap? ...

I would then offer a full A time and a CN no longer than 45mins. After this a ~2hr A to BT.

so your day may start to look like this:
WU 7
A 3.5 hrs aiming long term for 4 hrs
Nap moving up to 10.30-12.30 or longer
A 3.5 hrs
CN 4-4.30/4.45
A 2hrs if 30min CN 2.5 if 45mins
BT 6.30/7pm

What do you think? This is obviously based on you feeling your LO is ready for the 2-1 and the AM nap being her preference.

that sounds perfect.

Her nights have been disturbed but she was doing full nights before.

Is there a max day sleep? If she did 3+hrs in am?

Also what is nap 1 is interupted? Do I allow earlier nap and for longer?

If Z napped 3 hrs from 10.30/11 I did early BT of 6 pm and no CN but that is just me, Z hated being woken from naps. If you want the CN I would wake before 1pm to fit it . :- *

She'd never make 4.5hrs before bed.

What do u think about an 8a.m start? We can go to mother and toddler group then. She loves to go.

I'm starting routine re gig tomorrow. Wish me look :-\

You can start your day whenever you like - if she will let you ;) We actually did short days for a while when we had one long nap, but Z could do 4.5 hours A. You may have to keep that CN and cap the AM nap at 2hrs if she wont make BT yet :) Good luck!

Hi Sara I'm in need of your wisdom.

S wakes around 8am and does 3.75hrs A.
Nap 1@11.45 nap 2hrs
1.45....3hrs A
Nap2@4.45 trying to keep this at 45mins would sleep longer if I let her.
Bed 2.5 after waking.

So Do I continue to push morning or can I stretch out the afternoon? Yesterday we did earlier second nap(ap'd a little) and a longer A before bed. By about a half hr. She has slept soundly until 6.30 and the wind outsside desturbed her but she resettled.

In SAYP tracey talks about 3day increments. Can it happen that quickly?

Personally Z needed a lot longer than 3 days to move A times sometimes :P But he was touchy with sleep.

Are things working ATM? ie is she sleeping well at night? If so I would stick with what is working for you for now, maybe extend out the first and second A by 15mins and cap that 45 min CN at 30mins with a 2hr A to BT if you want to move towards 1 nap?

Your day would move to this
WU 8am
A 4 hrs
Nap 12 for 2 hours
A 3.25hrs
CN 5.15-5.45
BT 7.45/8pm

what do you think? :-*

The nights are going well. She is still crying out at times and this morning she cried for a few minutes then put herself to sleep.

There is the odd night where she wakes n its a struggle to get her down again. It's as if now you've to think of the last few days sleep. 24hrs is too limited.

I pushed to 3.75hrs A in the morning and she slept 3hrs.

wow, that is what Z was doing. The days get a touch short if you choose to go for the 1 nap days after a 3hr nap. This is what I did, it may or may not work for you, but Z is touchy and he survived it well.

Keep pushing that first A and let her sleep as long as she likes. If she wakes before 1-1.30pm then offer a 35min CN around 4hrs15 A then a 2hr A to BT.
If she wakes after this time then go for an EBT of a max of 5hrs A.

ie 1 nap day
WU 7 (I never let Z start the day before 6am, if he was up early i discounted it and kept him in his room in the dark.)
Nap 10.45 -1.30 (I gently pushed out this A over time, sometimes I went backwards but or the most part I increased 15mins or so every few weeks)
BT 6pmish (or a bit later if she can handle it)

ie 2 nap day
WU 6
Nap 9.45-12
CN 4.20-4.55
BT 7pm

Z did tack on his nights though so if I did an EBT he wouldnt wake too early. And if he did then I did the CN day. We did a mix for about 2 months. (mostly CN days then eventually he refused them more and more and could sleep through lunchtime)

I really had to stop worrying about 24hour periods too at this stage, and start too look at the week. Now Z is on 1 nap its the same. He sometimes does shorter naps but will give me a better night, or a short nap, short night then long nap, short night then long nap long night ::) Things do get more consistent though as you get closer to 1 nap.

That is so unbelieveably helpful Sara. Thank you. :-*

I was wondering if I kept S up and did one nap with EBT would she wake thinking it was just another nap? It actually why I haven't tried one nap day yet. ::)
