HELP
« on: November 24, 2011, 18:07:42 pm »
I have been breast feeding exclusively ( no bottles but solids) for 15 months and i am ready to stop. As you can imagine i am finding it extremely difficult to give my ds a bottle. He will not take it at all!! .. Please help because i am really ready now. As much as i love feeding i am still giving him 3 full feeds a day.

one of my major reasons for wanted to stop is  i would like to have a 3rd baby but i am not menstruating :(

HELP!!

{{{hugs}}} and well done for bf'ing so long!

Some of the things that helped E take a bottle was having it really warm, skin to skin cuddles and even having dh attempt as I know she associated me and feeding with bf'ing. She was almost 13 months when she transitioned to a bottle and I found a lot of help also came from a darkened room with little stimulation to excite or distract her.

Have you tried a sippy cup? My sister had great success with the silicone straw type when weaning her dd.

Hope you get some more responses and help and this goes easy for you :-*

Tommy tippe (sp?) Bottles were the ones we used when I stopped bf because the baby can "latch on" to the bottle like bf,,,,my friend also did well with a sippy cup!x

We went straight to sippy cups as well with dd2, she never took a bottle either.

The recommendation here is to ditch the bottle after 12 months anyway- i'd be moving to a sippy cup or a straw...I'd put your energy into that at this point rather than a bottle!

Definitely no expert but I would seriously consider going straight to a sippy cup too - we mix fed until 18 months, and then stopped bottles altogether at that point anyway....

Good luck!
